I just made this for someone on the forum, but I was wondering if there were more people who would want it. It replaces the piece right behind the shifter on the center console, and is made from real carbon fiber. This one doesnt have any cutouts, but I can make cutouts for anything you need in it, and the price will not change.

Theres another pic and more info on it in the carbon fiber link in my sig. Price will be $35 shipped in the continental US. Anywhere outside of that will cost more to ship, and the price will reflect that.

I am open to suggestions on what people want, but keep in mind I do this stuff on a small scale, and most interior parts are simply unrealistic for me to make. I would lose money because effort I would have to put into making them. I would either have to have the price sky-high, or take a loss for each part I make. Some things that fit under this category are vents, and other small complicated things. If there was enough interest I could make the cups under the door handles.
I am willing to make the stereo surround, but I need someone to send me an original in decent condition. It MUST be perfect, shape-wise, because I will need to take a mold of it. The finish doesnt matter. And whoever does send me their piece to mold, it will not mess up the original at all, and I will send it back to you in a timely manner. There will be a discount for the person who sends me the original piece, but I dont know how much yet. It will depend of the price of the cf piece. PM or email me if youre interested.

Starting to get the carbon fibre working eh? I recall some time ago you talked about carbon fibre hoods, sun roofs and hatches. Progressed any closer to making any those things a reality? I say do the sun roof first. Hopefully it would be easier and we all know the problems with those things.

As for the hood, its much the same idea, but on a much larger scale. Making a mold for a hood will cost me almost $800!!! in materials, plus the time it takes to make it. The cost of materials for the hood itself is a good bit lower, but labor gets factored into that price too.
DUDE! I will buy almost anything you make out of CF. You can buy a stereo/center console surround brand new, right? Anyway, I am down if anyone else wants to send Mazdaspeed7 a down payment with me on CF parts.
BTW, I have the radiator panel he did and it looks GREAT! I know he does good work.

Hey Mazdaspeed, I can send you my perfect center surround, how much are we lookin at here for the final price?

I think the black surround for logicon and radio would work fine. It would be modest, not overdone, and look nice. Also, make the little shifter surround, itd look akward since they are connected and flow into each other. How much do you think this would be? And hows the finish? Very smooth? shiny? Can you clearly see the weaving? Please let us know. If you do the radio/AC/vents surround and shifter surround I am definantly interested. Or just the AC/radio. Any estimates for price?
COUNT ME IN!

For the stereo surround and the shifter surround, the final price will be somewhere between $150 and $175. Im going to have too look into mounting the shift boot though, b/c I cannot duplicate the way mazda did it.
The finish will be smooth and shiny, with the weave of the cf cloth clearly visible. The resin I use is a light amber by itself, and when Its just think enough for the surface layer, it looks colorless, and you can seel the cloth very well.
I attached a close up of the cf piece in the first post so you can see the weave/finish.

Supermac, do you have a series 4 or series 5?
I thought they had different centerpieces
And for the idiot lights, do the Series 5, because it slants towards the driver, the series 4 slants away from the driver (probly because they only thought of the japanese right hand drive version).

I'm impressed with that pic you just attached, mazdaspeed..
Whys it look so dull in the other 2 pics though? I mean, no offense, but it almost looks like textured plastic. Doesnt have that deep, shiny, metallic look of CF. I would pretty much certainly buy the radio/ac surround and shifter if available. Just the radio/AC surround would be fine though
Let us know the progress

Cool stuff!
I like the idea of the CF stereo surround!
Could a plate be made to fill the area where the stereo sits or possibly just make that whole area flat? Then I could cut a hole where the deck is sitting now (not quite in the center of the opening because I'm using the stock brackets bolted to my Pioneer deck).
Either that or with a single DIN opening for an aftermarket deck?

Sounds like a plan, Asherwood.
Optimal I think would be a shelf made of carbon fiber, that could go back, say 4". Then you could stick stuff like CDs in there. Or a turbo timer. boost controller. Anything. I think just a blank panel would like akward, even if its carbon fiber.
A shelf would be best, but due to complexity, it may significantly increase cost. I have a shelf and my aftermarket deck in, and it looks bad because there is a large spacer and the little shelf. Plus the shelf is really shallow. Like 2 inches. So much that if a CD is in there, the shifter almost hits it in 1st/3rd/5th.
But that shelf is a POS. I think if a pocket was designed into the CF surround, itd help a lot. Id pay an extra $30 or $40 most likely, just for space and looks.
Please keep us updated as to when youre going to do this. Also, you know the 86-88 and 89-91 are slightly different, right? I would only be interested if it worked for 86-88 also.

Bumpdigity, I might also be interested in the Radiatior panel. I would also be able to send you my Radio surround, although it does have a minor crack in the top. Or you could just let us know how the progress is going
i am interested in the radiator panel, but it'll have to wait til i get some money. i would be really interested in a whole radio/center console/shifter surround. i have an 88, so make it for that. i would get money as fast as i could for that surround stuff. and what do u think u could do about $$$ off for buying multiple cf setups that u make? let us know how it is coming along.
