Who wants my money?

I've searched the forum for combinations of the words "California", "Engine", "Rebuild" and haven't found anything close to what I'm looking for so I'm hoping a post will help. I've been a long time member (sort of) but haven't visited in a while.

The problem? Engine starts fine, compression is fine, resurfaced the flywheel, engine mounts, checked the tranny mounts, and installed a new clutch. Checked wiring and even used a new battery. The engine doesn't shake until it warms up a bit. Then at idle up to about 2.5K it shakes like the engine wants to jump out of the bay! Give it some gas and it runs smooth.

What I'm looking for is someone that the forum says is reliable to diag and possibly fix my '87 TII. I've had Rick's Rotary look at it and after several thousands of dollars worth of work they tell me the shaking requires an engine rebuild because they can't figure out what the problem is.

While I trust their work I can't afford the $7K pricetag so I'm looking for someone that can help me remove the engine and rebuild (basic) it for around $2K.

I'm almost there with my baby. It just needs a little bit of help.

Any takers?

Thanks for your time!

No one will do that.

Did they even do a compression test?

Has this motor been rebuilt before?

Do you have an aftermarket flywheel?

Well, I was hoping someone wanted a side gig. I know the parts cost around $1000 for a basic rebuild kit and I can help with the labor to reduce the cost (I'm fairly mechanically inclined).

The thing is, Rick's told me they did a vac test and replaced the Turbo inlet duct. I don't know if they checked anywhere else for a vac leak. At this point I will get a 2nd opinion.

RX7_allnight - I'll send you a PM.

I don't know if you get your hands dirty, but you could always pull it and reinstall it yourself and save a few bucks, a hoist from harbor frieght is only 100-200 depending on features. Even if not it might be cheaper to have someone pull it and ship it to TN for a rebuild (if shipping isn't too much).

Just another option.
