What is this backup ride thing? My TII is my everyday driver with 106k and still going strong. I haven't had to drive in any snow yet since I bought it in May, so I may change my mind about getting a winter beater after the first big snowfall. : )

Former backup (Till I, uh....rolled it 2 times three weeks ago ):

1996 Subaru Legacy Outback Wagon, 5-speed (is there any other kind?), 117,000mi, heated seats, everything. May she rest in peace.

Current backup:

1988 Subaru GL Stationwagon, 278,000mi, factory clutch (Hell Yeah!), rusting to pieces, currently missing a driveshaft, as I sheared off one of the u-joints saturday, and am still looking for a driveshaft to replace it (When the U-Joint went, it tore up the yoke pretty bad). But still rolling!

Current driver, as the current backup is currently disabled : 1992 Dodge Grand Caravan Le, blah, blah.

And my 88' Vert is happily sitting under it's cover awaiting spring.

You guys that need a back up car are all wussies (j/k) I Daily Drive my 93 Touring - Commute 80mi/day to/from work during the week and have NO Backup

Except of course the Beater T-II that MARIAH lets me use as a LOANER when ever they have to keep mine to install MORE MODS!

I do own another car but it's my g/f's DD and she won't give it up when mine is in the shop tells me just serves me right for hogging the 7 all the time!

Howz about a 1982 aqua mist blue Oldsmobile delta 88 4 door. 85,000 miles...just made it from Ohio to Atlanta round trip with no probs. 307CI and 150hp...maybe 180 with the new exhaust and no cats. I just put the seats from my olds talon TSI in it and blacked out all the chrome and the green interior. Actually looks good. Next step ..ditch 307 and get 455..muhahahahahah.

Update: I put 6500 trouble-free miles on the Subaru, but now I am selling it, so all I have until summer is my Rock Hopper.

I laugh every time I drive by that place. I told my boss (Dan Cross) that he should go into business with Dick, so they could call it Cross Ide.

mine '88 pathfinder. Helps keep the salt off my Rx.

It does have some features that my Rx doesn't have like (high ground clearance and 4wd) that can be useful for some situations.

My backup vehicle is currently my primary. A 1986 Chevy Silverado, rusted to hell, one gas tank leaks fuel as fast as you put it in, one leaf spring is new and one other is old, so it stands crooked. It has about 6 or 7 holes in the cab from rust, the fenders have about 70 rust spots on them, my rear bed looks like it used to be a toyota. However it has a 396 w/400+ hp, and more torque than I care to calculate It's pretty sad, however I also have a 1999 Ninja that is my backup-backup, for when weather is really nice, or I'm in total need of transportation.

GM dealership tech. here with an '85 Dodge Ram 1/2 ton pickup, slant six, one barrel holley, automatic, 3.91 posi rear and all. I've done the base mod; exhaust. I built an exhaust out of a take-off '01 Yukon exhaust system that had 3in. tubing and a 3.5inch cat on it and built my own single side exit exhaust. WOOHOO!! I love my damn truck, it hauls anything plus it didnt get stuck in 14inches of snow this winter. A little rust, 160k miles but she runs like a 100hp bullet should (hehe). BTW, w/ the 3.91 rear she'll outrun a SOHC Vtec 0-40.

'87 TII

lots of mods
blown engine (from oil cooler hose loss)
j-spec coming!!

Here's my backup car.

1991 Daihatsu Charade

Feel the power from the 1.0 Liter as all 3 cylinders fire away.

Car actually is kind of fun to drive because it weighs like 1600 pounds.

Ok laugh all you want, but this is a description of my "beater", i'm sure I've GOT YOU ALL BEAT for hoopty status: 1990 grand am 4 door, no rear door latches or armrests, spray painted (yes, the entire car) blue and silver, no front grille, bald tires, silver spray painted wheels (no hubcaps, just stock wheels), Black and blue spray painted interior, black fur roof, snow leapord print fur rear seats, blue domelight, speedometer that's 25 miles an hour slow, dead shocks, idles at 4 grand due to blown idle air control valve, three hundred dollars worth of dynamat in a trunk that will always rattle no matter how much rubber I line it with, and a rearview mirror thats epoxy glued to my wind shield. WHAT WAS I THINKING????

-Oh yeah, the drivers side floorpan takes on water like the Titanic. Every time it rains, I come out to an inch of water and a floating floormat!
