who brought the new guy?!?

ha hey

Obviously im the new guy. I've been reading the forum all day and I'm pretty pleased to start with. there seems to be smart people here and little if any bashing or bs going around. Ive been to the protege and nissan forums and they're useless.

I just picked up a 1990 RX-7 Turbo II S5 (from what I've read) for $250. not bad huh. I know the basics of the rotary so far, and It's interesting, fun to learn about. anywho It's got little front end damage that we can pull out nothing serious, but it wont start. dont know why yet. But i want to have it figured out by the end of this month. Not to get too into it but it gets spark and fuel and everythings all good, it turns and stuff so were thinking after much effort that it needs a rebuild. I have a friend that will do it for $1000 all together.

The plan is to make it a racer, such as street preped autocrosser or SCCA track car or something. dont know yet but I think it's too nice to really gut it and destroy all its value soo we'll see.

I got the car from a friend of a friend. He didnt have it for long, never ran. So I've been trying to contact the owner who had it before him to no avail, for any info that he can give.

anyway just saying hi and that I'll be reading alot and maybe throwing my .02 as little as possible.

welcome to the forums!

and before you count the engine as blown try giving it a compression test.

and take a good look through the archives and http://aaroncake.net/RX-7/

Pull the EGI fuse from the engine bay, crank it over for a couple seconds, re-install fuse. see if that helps any. It might just be a little too wet in there ya dig?

go to aaron cake's website and search for "blown motor" hes got a wav. file of a blown motor trying to crank up, that'll help you diagnose wether or not the engine is blown... welcome to the club!!!

sweet thanks for the advise and that site is great... unfortunatley thats exactly how the car sounds when you crank it.. oh well at least I know. the good thing is i can bring the engine to the guy and he'll tell me if it needs to be built or if it can be rebuilt for free. he's another RX-7 guy, so i dont mind ripping it out. I'll learn a lot about the car doing this anyway.

Welcome to the forum. One of the best things to purchase now that you have an rx7 is a Factory Service Manual (FSM). I bought both of mine (2 different years) on eBay pretty cheap. You can refer to it often when you're here on the site doing searches and asking questions. Check out the FAQ section....lots of questions answered there on several topics. Also, when you can, post a video of problems you may have with your car. It is very helpful so we can hear and see what kind of running problems you might have. Congrats on your car and post some pics.

Welcome to the Forum!

Any help you need, you will find it here. There are plenty of good people here and a lot of people that know there stuff. You will quickly pick up on who they are.

Also check out the GlobalVicinity.com. Has the Community Service Manual, which is like the FSM (Factory Service Manual) but with more realistic testing procedures . Also has the Community Modification Manual where you willl find some interesting stuff.

You can find a few HowTos below but I would suggest browsing the entire GV site.

Again, Welcome.

You got ripped off for $250. However, I'll help you out and give you $200 for it to make up for most of what you lost.
