I purchased an '87 from a "friend" who said that the only thing wrong with the car was a blown water pump. I tried to get the car running so I could verify this. It would only start by towing it and bump starting. When it did, white smoke poured out of the exhaust as it ran for about a block. The water light came on and it quit. If the water pump had died, and he kept running the car, would the damage have cause water to get into the engine? The car is in good shape otherwise with only 86k on it.
