whine/squeal at high rpms?

I've got this really weird whine/squeal type of noise at high RPM ONLY when under load.. It VERY rarely happens if the car is not under load, and it won't be nearly as bad if it does. it doesn't come at the same point always, sometimes at 4000 RPM, sometimes not till 6000.. When its happening the car doesn't seem to be as fast as it should be. The car is very torquey, and has lots of boost (usually). I've still got some minor boosting issues, but they seem to be happening less and less all the time, hopefully they just go away. The car is certianly "quick". I beat a slightly modded turbo eclipse yesterday, so it's definately not bad. Anyone know what 2nd gen eclipses run in the 1/4?

Also, I had my intercooler hoses apart yesterday and noticed a tiny bit of oil around the edges of the one seam.. is this anything to be worried about? (the amount of oil was pretty small.. 1.5ml maybe?) When turbo oil seals blow you really know it, right? The car never smokes or anything.

Loose/old belts? And a little oil in IC pipes is ok. The crankcase breather vents back into the intake.

the belts are brand new, and I'm pretty sure they don't slip. I installed an E-Fan yesterday, and it didn't improve things, so it's not my fan.

Any other ideas?

your water pump is going... do a clean flush and hopefully it helps it. whats happening is the belts are tryin to turn the water pump with the speed of the engine and pushing all that water and with hard calcium or rust it aint always going to turn that fast so the belts are going to brake loose like a tire does from the pavment and start squealing like a 2 cent chinese crack ***** getting a $100 tip for squealing.

That's an... interesting.. analogy you have there.

I'm replacing the water pump tomorrow, so we'll see if that fixes it. I hope so!

Update on it: I've gotten it to do it under load as low as 3500RPM, and when not under load.. maybe 5000?

Any ideas on why it could change while under load?

New belts stretch a little. IMO its good to go back a few times and tighten them.
