whew... Almost overheated
So there I am, driving home after work in my newly acquired 89 GXL. It is squealing the belts a little, they must be shot after sitting for a while, methinks. So I keep driving, go around a corner and they quit sqealing. Okay, thats good.
little did I know that one be,t ahd demolished itself and the other one was not on the pulleys any more. I continued to drive it the 1/2 mile to my house (it was like 20 degrees out) and the temp guage starts getting a bit high, and the lights get a bit dim.
This is not good, I think. At the base of my driveway, she dies when i put it into reverse. So there I am, with a car that wont restart and is pissing coolant everywhere. The guage is at 3/4 of the way up. The overflow was empty, must have a blocked line.
Ahh the joys of having a car that sat for a year. I am gonna go out and see if she restarts and put her in the garage.

Well, I only KINDA want this car to die. I need to eek at least 4-6 months out of her in rotary condition, because I cracked up my AWD Turbo Laser and have no money to get her fixed, so I will rely on the big bad $300 RX-7.

Same thing happened to me.. I only had (still have..gah!) the alternater belt driving the water pump.. It slipped and broke while I was racing some funny little car... no idea what it was.. All of a sudden, it felt like i had an extra 30hp! i was like "oh, sweet! something cool just happened!"
At a light right ahead, i notice that all my warning lights are on.. hm...odd... then i notice the coolant guage is on the rise... not good.. I get it into a fire station parking lot immediately...guage only went 3/4 up.. Yup, pissing coolant.. Car still runs fine to this day... It probably couldn't have taken much more, tho..
