Where is the water temperature sender?

I believe it is supposed to be near the oil filter, but I still can't find it. Can anyone be more specific, or is there a diagram I can look at?

are you looking for the one to the gauge or the one to the ECU. if your looking for the one that goes to the ECU T66 is right it is behind the waterpump housing if your looking for the one for the gauge it is under the oil filter next to the heater hose. it is a single cable that connects to a brass nipple.

OK, you're wrong.
It's not used for the accelerated warmup. The ECU uses the rad coolant temp data to decide what to do with the air control valve.

So what if you've removed the ACV? Can you remove the sensor and plug the hole?

need to be more specifit. s4 of s5? water temperature sender to the ECU or to the instrumental dash gauge?

for s5. to the ECU is the green connector behind the water pump housing. to the gauges is below and near the oil filter.

for s4. to the ECU is the 2 pong connector on the radiatoor. to the gauges is below and near the oil filter.

Sorry guys, its an 88 TII, and I'm looking for the one that gos to the ECU. I think I found it on the water pump housing right under the alternator, but i'm having a hard time getting the plastic connector off of it.

I'm replacing it because of a problem I'm having with the car. I will be driving down the road and all of a sudden it will just bog down and lose power, like its running super rich. I mean to the point that it won't go anywhere. It happens randomly, of course, and always when I don't want it to and never when I want it to (so I can diagnose the problem). The computer is sending an O2 sensor code, which could be the O2 sensor or I'm thinking it could be the temp sender going bad, telling the computer that the engine is cold when it really isn't, and causing it to dump fuel. Does that sound like it could be the problem? It only does it when the engine is hot, but the temp guage works fine. It is really random too, and if i shut the car down and start it back up it runs fine, either for a few minutes or for a few weeks or anywhere in between.

its just like an injector connector. you have to pop off the wire that goes around the connector before you can pull it off.

Yeah I know how it works, it was just a pain to get to

I got it replaced and put back together I just need to wait til tomorrow to get the 80 amp fuse I blew and see if she runs (from now on I think i'll heed the warnings and disconnect the battery when I work on stuff )

So do you guys think this could have been the problem? I went ahead and put in a new O2 sensor while I was at it, even though I don't think it was necessary since that one wasn't that old. The only problem is I may never know if its fixed since the problem was so sporradic anyway.
