where do the wires in back of the S5 alt. go?

i've searched the board and the FSM and only found that one of the two wires route to the back of the idiot cluster.

i ripped the cluster out though, so could i just cut that one wire off?

and where does the other one go to?

thanks

On a S5 the wire to the back of the idiot light/clock is the trigger lead to tell the idiot lights that the alt is working.

The other wire from the alt is the input wire. The internal regulator of the alt needs that lead hooked up to primary ignition so the alt sees a referance voltage to determin how much it should be charging.

And don't bump unless at least 24 hours have gone by.

I have not tried to hook up an alt without the trigger lead, but in theory yes, only the voltage input lead should be required.

bumping this thread because i need to know which wire is the input wire. is it the thicker white/blue wire, or is it the smaller white/black wire.

and to clear this up, the "voltage input lead" would be a 12v IGNITION source right?

I had to deal with this on an S4 when we were building a turbo vert (one side had a turbo harness and the other a non turbo, just so happened that we eliminated the lead to the alternator in doing this). On the S4, there are 2 leads too. One is vertical | and one is horizontal under it _ like an upside down T. Off the top of my head, I want to say that the vertical one is supposed to just go to a 12 volt connection. I want to say I just tacked it to my battery. It shouldn't hurt anything to get the wrong one connected, and you'll definitely know, because the battery will only charge when you have the right wire connected to 12 volts.

Good luck.
