where to buy a "safe" pd?

now i know this topic has been covered lots of times...but i can't find a way to finish this sentence. Anyways , i know that mazda dealers have them, but as mentioned by another member, they may be faulty. This guy replaced his pd like 5 times in the past two years. According to my research, these things are suppose to last around 10 years or 100k miles at least! Now i am wondering if its just his horrible luck, or if anyone else has had problems such as the one mentioned above? I am terrified of an engine fire since i am a poor college student. Where have you purchased your PD and how long have you had it for? It was mentioned that since the PDs have probably sat at the dealership or the warehouse for the same time as they have been in the motors, that some may be faulty.

Use the search button, read the FAQ,
and if you knew the stuff above, why would you ask anyways?

There i saved you all the agony of having to type it =)

Go with Mazdatrix- they go through so many of 'em, you know they can't have much "shelf time" on 'em. Mine still looks brand new on the car, over a year later...

Isn't Mazdatrix the same as going to the Mazda dealer though? I though all the parts and prices were the same.

From what I can gather on the Mazda labels on the parts, they get most of their stuff through the main west coast distribution center, straight from Japan...

Would have to call 'em & ask though, since I'm just taking an educated guess because of the parts I've ordered from them (including a rotor housing that had to come from the "distribution" place)...

mazdaformance should have a better deal than mazdatrix. but I would just eliminate it from the system.

im the type of person that believes the pd is there for a good reason....and should remain there until more accurate data has been gathered that says otherwise :-/...ill check out mazdaformance, thanks.

Thats understandable but I still beleive that eliminating it did no harm. I drove around for almost 40k miles without it. Nothing broke nor did I have problems with fuel.

i'm iffy about this, too. mark, one of the wisest here (or a bot from mazda) seems to agree that its best to keep it. santiago went about 40K miles without one. i mean, i understand an engine fire would cost more than a pulsation dampener, but geez they're expensive. i'd rather just buy insurance for car fires.

If I couldn't eliminated it I would opt for an S5 PD. Its probably cheaper to find an S5 rail than to buy a new PD.

the s5 rails on mazdatrix cost 200 and the pd costs 139 or so. I have also read that both have the same problem, meaning, both are proned to leakage. And we all know that its the diaphram that fails, and not the plastic piece on the pd. Reted and mark have different views on this...and both, in my opinion, seem to be bots from mazda. So yeah, i am iffy about his aswell. Lets see if the bots decide to intervene.

I would still not buy an S5 damper. My car caught fire around 97 or 98 (in my estimation) with 50,200 miles on it. So barely 7 years old and 50k miles. Sorry I do not like those odds!

Either find an aftermarket PD or eliminate it all together.
