Whe removing the rat nest what lines do you use for the fuel lines?Do you use metal hoses under the manifold? or rubber hoses all the way around?

You can use regular fuel lines. Just buy a few feet of it from autozone and replace everything from the firewall to the rails.

You can also hack up the rats nest and use just the metal fuel line parts, that will work as well if you are worried about heat.

OR, you could switch to -6an braided S/S lines, but you're getting into some bucks there.

You canot use "regular" fuel lines! If you ask for that at an autoparts store you'll get low-pressure carb fuel hose, which will burst open on your first drive. You absolutely must get hose rated for the much higher pressure used in EFI. If it doesn't have "fuel injection" printed on it, don't use it.

NAPA carries a red 200PSI hose.
I use heat shield over it where it crosses over the engine.
The extra 2 feet of hose acts as a pulse damper.

That's a big assumption. If it was that cheap and easy, that's what Mazda would've done...

My guess is they had the vac spider across the engine & added the fuel pipes to it, rather than risk chafing hoses against it.

When we pull the spider, there is now plenty of room for hose.

This would've been a simple and cheap problem to solve compared to developing and manufacturing a pulsation damper.

Bottom line is you shouldn't rely on a bit of extra rubber hose to replace the pulsation damper.
