When is it neccessary to replace the side housings?

If I'm going to do a rebuild, i was thinking why not replace the side housings while im replacing the rotor housings? I know they are costly but is it worth it?

How long do rotors last btw? Thanks.

It's generally not necessary to replace the irons. They wear like everything else but if they are out of spec they can be lapped flat. Most machine shops can accomplish this.

Rotors will last as long as they are within spec. You can find these measurements in the FSM (see FAQ).
