^^ agreed^^
Mazda didn't spend all that money in R&D for nothing. The OMP is there for a reason. I hear some people switch to pre-mix when they have a problem with it, but there's a thread on here somewhere that will show you how to rebuild it. No need to complicate things when filling up at the pump. Just my .02

ive rode 2 stroke motorcycles all my life and i happen to love the smell of 2stroke in the morning. but thats just me. since we are on this subject if i block off my omp and just leave it plugged in (s5) and tucked away, what would that do to the life span of it? to the best of my knowledge when a pump isnt pumping what its designed to pump it burns out. correct me if im wrong(which i usually am).

Does any1 know if you can put a S4 OMP on a S5? I heard the mechanical one on the S4 is better than the electrical one on the S5.

^^ yes you can but you need to modify the mech unit to make it work.

why you would premix and use a Omp is beyond me. Omp is fine by itself. It was designed that way and it works great.

Its the fuel treatment stuff. A friend of ours got us onto it about a year ago when I was driving the GXL daily. I've started using some of it with the TII but it still has the omp. Not for long.

All i can say is that if your gonna run premix then use The Lucas treatment. If not think about this i have seen OMP lines turn to dust when taken off a parts car or what have you. These lines are over 20 years old or what ever year the car was manufactured they tend to just desinigrate so its your call. anyone who owns a rotary knows that for the motor to live its timeline there cannot be any type of oil failure or lack there of.

RotaryWeaponse7en knows the exact name of the stuff but wont go to his car to look and see what it is but ohh well i would but my car is at the shop.

Well I'm in aus so i have no idea what the lucas treatment stuff is. Im unsure if the OMP is running properly so I'm planning on running a lil premix just to be safe. Just going to run it at half the ratio as someone mention previously. A guy i know on the other forumns says that chainsaw oil is the best to use, would that be true?

You realize there's a way to test to make sure your OMP is running properly, right?

What needs to be modify for the mechanical S4 OMP to work on a S5 if you don't mind me asking. Or has it been done before and there is a thread some where on here?

Is this the Lucas fuel treatment you guys are referring to?

http://www.wd-wpp.com/msds2/00000347.pdf

If so, then it's not an oil, it's a solvent with some wax in it.

If you are going to run premix, just use 2 stroke oil as it is DESIGNED FOR THIS PURPOSE.

When you "tuck away" the OMP the pump has been separated from it's drive gear, so it's not moving at all.
All the computer sees is the metering valve and whether that valve is responding as expected.
So, even when everything is left stock, the best the computer can do is assume that the pump is actually moving oil- it really has no way of confirming the flow.

well the fuel treatment doesn't seem to be hindering the cars at all. we've talk to guys from lucas as well about it. so far I got no complaints and neither do my cars.

Basically an ounce a gallon.

What you need to know is, if your oil metering pump is working fine you do not need to premix. If it was disabled by the previous owner I would hope that they would have mentioned it when they sold it to you, but in the case that they didn't, they probably would have removed the OMP/hoses/injectors and installed a block off plate in it's place which you could see down by the lower radiator house on the left side of the motor.

There are those who supplement their gasoline with premix even when the OMP is working, but I do not know if there is any added gain in doing so. Maybe someone will answer that for me as well.

my s4 fills up with alittle less than 14 gallons when my gauge is at "E" and the light on the dash turns on (for a while). maybe my gauge is f'd up, or theres still 2 gallons in there?

Just out of curiosity, if the OMP uses the normal engine oil why can't you just put some normal engine oil in with the fuel? Also u guys using the OMP how much oil do you normally go through?

well, i'm guessing why you dont put motor oil in the tank is because its not meant for that purpose. the omp uses its on direct injection into the e-shaft and the rotor housings.

and about the lucas fuel treatment, you put a lot less than you would with 2 cycle. would it be just like it states? 2-3 ounces per 10 gallon.

so 10/3=3.33, so 1 ounces per 3.33 gallons.

For a full tank:

* S4 = 16 gallons = 4 4/5 ounces lucas fuel treatment
* S5 = 18 gallons = 6 2/5 ounces lucas fuel treatment

in my opinion i think the omp was somewhat of a convenience factor from mazda. yeah there are other way that oil could have been injected into the engine. but what someone said about putting it inline with the fuel after the fuel pump is plausible but not likely. mazda did do a lot of R&D and thats why we have the omp. obviously it was the best way that they could get a semi accurate amount of oil into the engine. now im not saying you NEED to premix but depending on application it doesn't hurt.

and yes those omp lines do disintegrate when you even look at them after 20 years. and the new lines are not cheap. but premixing is somewhat of a pain i prefer the (i think its banzai racing) adapter plates so you can run two stoke from a separate tank and use the omp to inject it.

Well my car is now running on premix, will disable the OMP this weekend. Topping up the fuel with oil doesnt really bother me. Now the real question i want to know is, can i no run synthetic oil in my car? and if so what weight. Also is it safe to run synthetic premix? I'm assuming it would be.

Page 3. Its not pretty, but you get the idea.

Mech units in Australia are getting rare for the very reason ppl go a microtech and then convert the Electric - omp to a Mech -omp.

Personally i've gone a haltech to I can maintain it.
If yours works, keep it mate. premixing is hassle

Premixing provides added lubrication. It's a good safety net just IN CASE something were to happen to your OMP in any way shape or form...it'll buy you SOME extra time. Personally I do notice a difference in the way it runs with 2-stroke in the tank. It just seems smoother. My friend has experienced the same results in his 250k miler.

I premix about half an ounce per gallon of gas. It's cheap, it's cheerful, it makes people stare and it gives me just a tad more peace of mind after what Kevin Landers showed in his rebuild how-to.

Aaron, I don't feel like arguing with you about this for what...the third time? We both know that in the end we have our separate views on the matter. So don't bother taxing your finger muscles.
