Wheel size question. I know, another, I apologize in advance.

I'm looking at some wheels.

Do I have a prayer of fitting some 17x9 +12's in the back and some 17x8 +25's in the front?

Or is this a silly silly pipedream?

Oh yeah, this is an 88 Turbo II

I have 17x8s out back in a 24mm offset, and they are about flush with the rear fender. Wouldnt 17x9 with 12mm less of an offset push the wheels way further out?

No.
9" versus 8" is one inch difference.
To figure that into offset, you divide by half, which is like 12mm to 13mm.  Therefore, if you adjust offset by that much, the 9" will sit about the same with the wheel well.

Play around with this:

Correct me if Im wrong...but the 1" difference will be split between the sides of a wheel. So it will exten both 1/2" inward and 1/2" outward. 1/2" is about 13mm. So it will be extending 13mm past what my 8" wide wheels would, and then add on another 12mm for the offset difference. So that means a 17x9 in a 12mm offset will protrude 25mm more than my 17x8 in 24mm offset. Or 53mm more than a stock T2 wheel. Even that calculator you posted up agrees with me...

Are you thinking clearly Ted, or am I just way off on this one??

My math agrees with you, Rxmfn7.

8" wheel, +24, there is ~76mm "frontspace" if you will. (8/2 = 4", ~25mm/in, so 100mm of wheel on the fender side of the middle of the wheel, minus the 24mm of offset)

9" wheel, +12, there is ~100mm "frontspace" in front of the hub. 9/2 = 4.5", so ~112.5mm in front of the wheel, minus 12mm offset.

but either way I think you should have loads of backspace, which means going up with the offset to keep from protruding past the fenders (bleh!)

Oops, sorry, you're right.
I got the offset mixed up between the two rims.

Hmm... so it seems that +12s are cut. think +25s would be alright back there? I really just don't want it to stick out past the fender.

No, the wheels you described are fine.
My explanation of the offset was just wrong.

The +12’s are going to stick out of the fender. I would go with the +25’s over the +12’s but they would still stick out a little.

Well yeah, they would fit and work, but I'm really trying to avoid sticking out of the fender too terribly far.

225/45/17 tires up front, and 255/40/17 tires in the rear would fit perfectly flush.

Not with the offset he listed.

225’s would fit up front with a +25 offset.
But 255’s with a +12 would stick out an inch or more in the rear.

We've run them with very little fuss.
There might be slight rolling of the fenders, but that should not be that much of a big deal.
