Question Wheel hop....

Excuse my language but how the **** can you get rid of wheel hop in these cars....

i was out and about, launched my car one time at about 4500-5000rpm and i got SEVERE wheel hop, so bad my teeth were gunna fall outa my head and i thought i broke my car in some way....

is there any possible way to stop this insanity?, for as much as it hops, and shakes, i'm completely sure it does nothing but put severe strain on the WHOLE car....

no it's the whole rear-end basically....

how would the clutch make the whole car bounce around like that?...

basically with the suspension in the rear's of the RX7's they are ( from what i understand ) prone to wheel-hop, and i want it gone!...

the way i see it, it's deadly!...

am i doing something wrong to make it wheel hop?...

mine's only if i drop the clutch, i dont know if i'm doing something wrong or what but it sucks ***....

i hate worrying if i broke something or hurt something on my car after it does that, thats why i wish it was gone....

though i hear it's because of the independant-rear suspension?... dunno....

My tbird has IRS, it didn't do this...

Mine only happens when I push the traction limit, like If I drop the clutch itll hop, if i push it around turns itll hop until I left off and smoothly go into the power...

i launched at about, 4500rpm-5000rpm....

i do know any lower and it WILL wheel hop, mabe i launched it too low....

when i did launch it one time it was hopping pretty bad so i layed into the gas and whined it out a bit and it stopped, this was earlier today....

As much as you were hoping I wouldn't mention those, You most likely have gas shocks on the car by this point.. actually, I think they were gas shocks from the factory. So you'd likey show no sign of leaking. On my car, the front shocks were original when I got it, @ 210k miles.. They were so broken tha tyou could push them down by hand, and they wouldn't come back up. No signs of leakage, as it was gas shocks on my GXL.

I'm not saying, I'm just sayin...

my car does t at the track really bad, ran a 15.0 at 100mph, first time at the track ever with massive amounts of wheel hop, i have hear the saying bushing slop='s wheel hop. so i would get a urethane bushing kit, if you can wait till next spring i'll tell you how it goes

Get new struts/springs, replace the diff mounts with solid, replace all other bushings as well.

yep sounds like the suspension needs a refresh. we are working with cars that are 10+ years old. that kind of stuff even with low miles on the rest of the car is bound to age and wear out. hell ive seen bad struts @ less then 15k it can happen!

im not sure if this is correct or not but you should check your differential mount. if its bad i would think that it cause wheel hop.

i have Tein suspension that would show oil if they were leaking, no oil, no leaks!, *whew*

my suspension is pretty stiff in the rear, i can barely press down with both arms but if i put a knee on the bumper it moves a little bit....

suspension seams good, i'm assuming this is somewhat normal, i just want it gone or somehow minimize it, it bloody sucks and feels like someone's putting a jack hammer to my car....

things to check:
shock/spring condition. a worn shock cant damp well enough.
bushing condition. I am the guy who says 'bushing slop = wheel hop" dont forget the front diff mounts' bushing.
alignmeht. odds are your car is nearly 20 years old, and has never had one.
tire condition. old crappy tires have old crappy belts that allow the tires to deform under heavy load.
tire presure. lower it.
launch at a higher rpm, and modulate the gas as needed.

i dont get any wheel hop on the street, ever. on the drag strip, with the traction compound they put down it's a differnt story, but since i dont care about drag racing, i dont mind.

LOL!, now that i think about it, i was on a side road that has a different texture then most other roads.... like a rock and cement compound and not just pavement or concrete....

stupid stupid me now that i think of it, launching on a road like that is sticky and kinda dumb....

please dont flame, i feel dumb enough....

* puts head in a vice *

you guys probably know what i'm talking about....

lower tire pressure and try to engage the clutch a little smoother.

loosen your shocks all the way up and i bet it will stop. maybe not ALL the way loose, but wheel hope usually happens with tighter dampening and older bushings.
