Wheel bearing help!
Hey guys, welp, tried getting the rear brake rotor off of my FC the other day and im sure u can all guess that the damn screws that hold it on were stripped to hell.. had to beat the damn thing off with a mallet and it STILL wouldnt budge.. removed the whole hub assembly an all and finally shattered the old rotor into peices and it came off... Well in the process we destroyed the wheel bearing so now i have a new wheel bearing and was wondering if there was any special way to press it in. Aside from a bearing press, are there any tricks to it? does it need to go a certain way? or can i just press it on in there.. any help will be greatly appreciated!
Because some people actually believe they need those screws. Manufacturers only put screws or those tinnerman nuts on to keep the rotor/drum on the car while it's heading down the assembly line. Once the wheel gets bolted on, it's completely unnecessary. The ONLY usefulness I've found from the screws is when the rotor is rusted badly on the hub, you can use those screws in the threaded holes to jack the rotor off the hub. However, it turns out to be a paradox, because those same "useful" screws get rusted to the rotor and hub, so you're screwed either way.
I always remove them and then slather on some anti-sieze compound between the rotor and hub. You'll never have that problem again.
