Whats the Weight/Balance difference between vert and hatch?
Sup guys, I was looking into doing a rx7 project car and I just had a quick question on the difference between the models. Is there a weight difference between them, I know verts are generally more heavy. Second would a vert be a good car for track/drag? Thanks

Verts weight maybe 300 pounds more (IIRC?), and don't have the chassis rigidity of the coupes.
If you want a track car, I'd suggest a model such as the 86 sport, which is the lightest of the fully-equiped models (in terms of suspension and brakes, etc).

If you're looking to do track days, a coupe is the way to go, convertibles have to at minimum have a 4 point rollbar, 5 point harnesses for most groups, and it's only going to get more strict. Most places let stock coupes on track with no extra stuff needed. Besides, lighter is better for performance, so the coupe wins that one too.

It's nowhere near 300lb...
A good way to compare the chassis weights is to compare the Japanese Convertible and GT-Limited models, because these two cars had identical drivetrains and similar equipment levels. For the S4 the difference is 60kg (132lb) and for the S5 it's 80kg (176lb).
