Everyone says how the GXL model weighs alot. My title says it weighs 2625 lbs. Is that wrong or something?

Well do you think the 2625 is wrong? Thats just what is says on the title. I took out the spare & jack so it should be less with no much gas at all, which it seems to always be on empty with my heavy *** foot

GVW is what the car weighs fully loaded, this is the number that is listed in the door jamb, it is NOT the wieght of the car, it is car, passengers, etc, max wieght for the car. Cars are often overloaded slightly with no side effects...

86-88 cars weigh less than 89-91 cars.

Lightest stock FC I've weighed was an 86 sport package with no PS, no sunroof, but it did have ac. It also had an AL hood ~2600lbs, and I don't remember how much gas was in it, completely stock.

I've had 2 87 TII's, the first one wieghed 2820lbs, gas level I forgot. The 87 TII I have right now weighed 2880lbs with 1/2 tank of gas (probably more gas than the other TII had in it). Both were completely stock when weighed. Niether had ABS, leather or any other additional factory options, they are even the same color.

The second 87 TII is tipping the scales at 2620lbs with ~1/4 tank of gas right now. No a/c, straight through exhaust, no spare, jack, rear wiper, power antenna, removed emissions...

Figure a 86-88 GXL will probably weigh around 2700lbs.

I've never wieighed an 89+ car but I've read ~2800 for the GTUs and ~3000lbs for the TII.

Figure that a TII has a heavy turbo, tranny, axles, diff. I didn't mention that I have a 17lb flywheel (stock is ~28lbs) and 300ZX na wheels (4-5lb less each).

Wheels and tires can wiegh ALOT, ie big heavy chrome 17's might add 10-15lbs each!

Otherwise an n/a is going to weigh less, ~100-120lbs. GXL's and TII's have the same options for the most part, so add the 80-90lbs on for the TII drivetrain and another 30-40lbs for the wheels and tires. This is a stock to stock comparision, but we can assume that the TII drivetrain and wheels and tires are the only differences between the GXL and TII weight wise. The TII has a slightly different cat-back but GXL's have AAS so little things like that should be a wash..

The Official Scoop

Yo,

Okay boys, here's the official word from MAZDA on curb weights for 1989 manual transmission RX-7's only. I'm getting these numbers from the 1989 RX-7 Brochure, and the GTUs special flyer. Your weight, mileage, and color may vary.

GTU: 2800

GTUs: 2802

GXL: 2881

Turbo II: 2987

'Vert: 3045

Yeah, what's with the GTUs weighing more than the GTU?! I'm pissed!! *snicker*

My 88 brochure lists the following curb weights:

2720 Manual
2750 Automatic
2850 Turbo
3003 Convertible

Sorry, it doesn't give any more weight info than that.
