Whats up guys!

New member just dropping in to say hi. I havent been much of a forum person due to a busy schedule, but now that work has slowed down some, I figure Id make myself known. Im the owner of an 87 TII, 91k miles on it, just recently replaced the engine (layed into it one cold night early this year with a new top mount, pinged in 4th and busted 5 out of 6 apex seals >_<). Since then my car has recieved these:

-JDM engine, rebuilt with a very mild port job (and no I didnt buy the JDM engine because of more 'hp', I needed a useable core because mine was pretty bad).
-550 primaries, 750 secondaries
-upgraded fuel lines (inside engine compartment)
-All Emissions and Air Pump removed
-Koyo Radiator

The car already had RB turbo back exhaust, a RB flywheel and clutch combo when I bought it. An HKS boost gauge followed, and I found an ARC top mount intercooler to put on. Small other things like a Greddy Elbow made its way onto the car (I had to ghetto hack the piping to fit to the stock one, PITA). I will post up some pictures shortly of the car, when it stops raining LOL.

I dynoed the car last year on the old setup (before I knew what I was doing, and it layed down 210 hp in 4th gear. Im not going for anything outrageous, I kinda like how my car is turn-key and easy to drive with the stock turbo in place. Which leads me to my question....My turbo finally crapped out on me (HKS SSQV has been a bad choice for me in all my turbo cars, you think Id learn by now LOL), and has significant shaft play in and out, up and down. I want to upgrade, but Im not looking to make more than 250 whp.

Ive been researching BNR upgrades for a while now, but I keep getting conflicting arguements..half of the people say their turbos suck, the other half say they are awesome. At the price of $650 for a stage one, I really dont want to fork out that much cash to get a POS back that blows oil after 3 days of having it (I already changed out the BOV to a stock Mitsubishi one). What are your opinions on it here? A stage one with a 30mm wastegate, ported and all is the best bet for me. As of now, I have the stock Airbox still in the car to keep the boost from running away and me having to buy another motor. I have a fuel pump and a wideband that should make their way into the car shortly, Im just saving up the cash to get them. What do you guys think?

I dunno who told you BNR was a POS turbo, but they dont know their *** from a hole in the ground. Look at the thread below about the BNR turbo. They do awsome work and Ive met Bryan a few times. A freind of mine used to work with him and they do top notch work on awsome turbos. Stage 2's seem to be the most popular. BTW, welcome to the site.

What do you have to control your fuel? A stage 2 BNR and your other mods will easily get you to 250whp on low boost. Stage 1 as well would get you 250whp, just on higher boost. There is only like a $100 difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2

to control fuel, it would most likely be an SAFC 2. Do I need an FPR or not, I have no idea...I have to make a few runs in the car when the wideband is installed to see if I even need to bump up the fuel pressure. With the secondaries I have, and the low boost Im looking to run (12-14psi), I might even have to pull fuel from up top.

At this point Im looking at another grand or so, plus the turbo, just to get things 'safe' where I can push the car when I want to, without feeling like it will blow it up if I push it too far. I will take a look into the stage 2 setup....and Im going to see if I can get a 360 degree thrust bearing put in as well...even though it doesnt need it, I like to have things a little 'overbuilt' to allow them to last longer between rebuilds..

yeah..I was told that the stock ECU will handle up to 850s...but will need some sort of fuel managing....

Im confused your first post makes it sound like you are running 750's now, with no fuel controller. But yeah, just a piggyback will control 750's plenty well enough for what your target sounds like

sorry I forgot to be more specific. I actually havent even really pushed the car all out since I got the motor back in the car (about 1500 miles ago), and I dont think Ive driven it hard enough (or high enough RPM) to get the secondaries to come online. Ive been minimizing my driving with it due to the bad turbo...last thing I need is that thing to rub the housing and put metal shavings into the engine.

Its my weekend car, so I don't drive it much to begin with...
