Lightbulb What's needed to convert NA to TURBOII?

My buddy is on his last few clicks on his 87 NA, the engine is pretty much toast. His done a lot of work on the body and looks and so he'd like to keep it. He wants to drop the Turbo II engine into it, what does he need to do that?

You need alot of time and money for the conversion. Unless he really wants to keep the car, I would recommend picking up a TII instead of doing the swap. I'm in the process of putting a TII in my 91 convertible, because they don't sell turbo vert here and I really want one. Here's a link to a site for a list of the mininum parts you'll need for the swap. www.rx-7.cc/TII.html If you are going to do it, try getting a TII donor car. This would make life much easy when doing the swap. Hope the link helps.

Alright here we go
I have a 88 GXL with a Turbo II Motor
You don't need NO Turbo Tranny or rear or driveshaft or starter
everyone says this I dont know why
(yes its stronger) not ness for swap tho

You need to swap out the flywheel and front counterwieght of the TII motor and put in your n/a ones

fuel injection wiring harness
Turbo boost sensor
selenoid resistor(if your dont have it)Its a real big plug by the passenser side strut tower
Turbo II accelerator cable
Turbo ECU
Turbo Airflow Meter
Turbo Inlet duct
youll need a downpipe.. maztrix has it pretty cheaply
and then do a custom exhaust
and a Turbo II Hood
(even tho I dont use one

I say three cheers for Kabooski. Was getting a little tired of the nay sayers. I've got a spare turboii motor I just overhauled and its headed for the N/A before the first of the year except I have a turbo trans to go with it. Gonna have to get a special driveshaft. I find it somewhat hard to believe a stock turbo is gonna rip the rear end out of the N/a. 180 to 200 hp fankley is not a lot of HP and if it can't take it , it was'nt worth much to begin with. Still need a N332 boot sensor and the time to do it. Especially the time. Anyway thanks Kabooski for pressing on.

how much did it cost u to do the conversion???

Eh Kabooski, thanks for the comprehensive info! Finally somebody gave me the absolute requirements to do the swap, instead of the COMPLETE swap story. Your setup is pretty sweet, hope my friend's car ends up as FAST as yours!

I've never had a hand in this kind of swap before, but I still don't understand why people say it's so difficult. Honestly, it doesn't seem to be any more difficult that pulling an n/a engine out and replacing it with another n/a engine. You just have to make sure you have all the parts you're gonna need.

Hell, you don't even have to rewire anything, you just install the turbo ECU with the turbo wiring harness. I'm speaking for the '89-'91's though, I've heard that with the earlier models you actually have to change the dash wiring out as well.

If I keep the convertible for any length of time I'll probably do this swap. But the engine in it only has 40k on the clock and it would be such a waste to pull it out any time soon.

to just get by...

You would ude your na flywheel and counterweight. Boost sensor(strut tower) and knock control box(pass. kick panel), wiring harness, ecu, and the turbo motor. also throttle cable like they said, and either a fmic or turbo hood. TID or make a custom one. THe AFm is the same. you would need a dp also.

btw I have everything for a full or partial t2 swap available good prices. t2 hoods, downpipe, I got it all!
