170 hp at the wheels would be 200-205 at the flywheel. That car probably weighed less then mine, so I think I would have at least that much hp. I probably should have ~220 flywheel(185 or so at the wheels), but my intake temps have been sky high lately. That would make 200-205 bhp sound much more appropriate for my car right now. Im working on a cold air box to get my intake temps down, and that should put me back to where I should be.
This is totally unrelated, but where do you think the stock MAF sensor limits hp to? I know it is quite restrictive.

SCCA IT legal cars need to run stock ECU's.
I haven't done too much R&D with the NA stuff, so I can't give you a good answer to the stock airflow meter restriction.  It's a much different case with the turbo airflow meter, since pressure is involved.  The NA airflow meter is a bit smaller than the turbo airflow meter.
You build a 250hp NA motor on stock ports, I'll buy one from you!

Do the 6-port sleeves have to be present/working? Can the be removed? Can the be REPLACED with fixed units that flow better? Does the AFM have to be the stock Mazda one?

I don't think they care of the 6-ports are working or not, but you cannot pull the acutators.  You can't even mod the actuators.
Yes, the stock airflow meter is supposed to be there.

They way SCCA rules state we can remove the six port actuators and sleeve as they are classified as smog related devices. After doing some research, (and will be putting this to the test) we feel from a road racing point of view, you are better off leaving them working as well as the VDI unit found on the '89 and later models as the change the characteristics of the torque band.

Mazdaspeed, I'm gonna have to call you out on the whole 230 horsepower thing. Please go get your car dynoed and prove us wrong, he'll I'll even chip in a few bucks for your dyno time if you do break 200 to learn your secret. Without NOS, or porting, there's no way in hell you're getting near that without forced induction. (prove me wrong!)
As for the whole cold air box thing, I wouldn't bother, without having your air filter down near the front of the rad, I doubt its going to see that much cold air for you to make a difference.
As for the 300zx, you sure that it was a turbo? They have 300hp. Maybe it was broken.
What were you're times at the track?
