whats a good turbo

whats a good turbo that will bolt right up where the stock turbo is? I really don't want to do any modifications to anything if I can help it. I've got rx7.com fuel pump, 720cc secondaries front mounted intercooler, msd 6a, and greddy blow off valve. Thanks!

There is no such replacement - that's why you got zero answers.

You can have your turbo rebuilt with a compressor upgrade - that will bolt onto the stock turbo exhaust manifold.

Typical compressor upgrades are V-trim, H-trim, and 60-1.&nbsp Contact Bryan at BNR for more info...

yes there are many different types of "HYBRID" turbos that uses the stock exhaust side, and then different wheels can be matched to the housing or even the housing can be machined a little bit to fit a slightly larger wheel then you can get a t04 compressor side. this is what i have currently on my car... it maxes out at 18psi. but i do however have a t04RR waiting but I want to take the hybrid to it's limits to show what she can do!

What about the s5 turbo, its a better platform to go from, its upgradable by going hybrid and it bolt right on you just need a s5 mani.

Huh? what are you talking about you don't know if the turbo is an safc? maybe you just worded it wierd.

So right now I have a turbo that came off an 88 rx7 however I got it from a guy that enlarges the waistgate so it can push more psi. however I thought I read somewhere on the forum that there was a guy that does that kinda thing. I'll try to search more. Thanks though.

I found my answer... sort of???? okay. it appears I can bolt-on a T3/t4 hybrid turbo??? I dont need to change the manifold? Who makes the S5 turbo? And if I do add a hybrid what sort of HP gain can I expect? 25 HP, 50????

What does TID mean?
Who can port the WASTEGATE?
I have a GARRET T3/T4 HYBRID TURBOCHARGER - I assume this will work as a direct bolt-on if I make the above changes???? Sorry to ask so many ?'s - Just new to this

TID = Turbo Inlet Duct...fancy name for the piece of plastic ducting that runs from the compressor inlet of the turbo to the AFM (air flow meter) then to the air filter box.

Who can port the wastegate = anyone with the turbocharger unit in their hands with a dremel or other rotary tool.

T3/T4 = no, it's probably a T3 turbine and T4 compressor, and the stock manifold will not accept T3 turbine housings as a bolt on affair.

ok. I was told I could modify the stock turbo to 60 trim wheel which will produce 12 PSI over the 8 psi stock for $350 - is that a good price? Also, are you sure a T3/T4 GARETT TURBO HYBRID will not work on the RX7? Are you saying I should install a T3/T4 turbo manifold?
---- The car is @ the shop being fixed. If its minor to fix I am going to have the turbo upgraded

well it is not really minor you will need the fuel to support it and you will also need to make sure that whom ever is rebuilding your turbo knows about the "impact" desing of the stock turbo! as it makes things a little more difficult to control if a larger exhaust wheel is put in there! The waste gate will also have to be ported to it's maximum extent. Not to mention that you will have to modify your turbo, or your intake for it to bolt up properly. or have a spacer machined like I did!

humm thinking...... if you go to the juck yard (last time i went) some guy pulled off two T3 turbos for his RX7. so you guys know he took them off german cars i belevie. and he paid 50 bucks for each... so it might be worth it to pull it off yourself.

I'd rather get the turbo rebuild and modified to handle more boost, then sell the car.
JREYNISH - Do you have a grocery list of parts needed to complete the turbo upgrade? Could you tell us more about your upgrade and its costs?

my parts list is extensive! And most likely not required but prefered, That is why I have most of them.
Turbo is s5 exhaust manifold cut machined welded heat treated, coupled with a new cassette, and t04e compressor housing and turbine massively ported wastegate and new flapper door installed. Also to get this to blot up to the stock location I had to make a spacer for the turbo so that it would bolt up properly so there was space enough so that it was not hitting the LIM, it cost me arround 800 CND!.
Other parts;
Turbo XS type H BOV,
Large Custom FMIC,
255lph Fuel pump,
MSD rising rate fuel Pressure regulator, (soon to come off for ease of tunnability),
550 primary, 1600cc secondary injectors,
TB mod,
Removed Emision and rats nest,
custom DP and exhaust,
Microtech LT-8, (did have stock ecu with Blitz MFCS)
boost and egt guages,
centerforce street strip clutch with 422lb clamping capacity,
streetported engine,
probably more but i cannot remember it at the time.
As you can see I have alot more that what it would take to do it safely but I am aiming for 450-500RWHP, not with my hybrid but eventually so most of these parts are there to support this goal.
