Question What's going on with my trans?

When I shift into 2nd at a high rpm almost everytime it scratches as if the clutch wasn't down all the way when i threw it in gear but it was down all the way.
Doesn't happen in any other gear.It does the same downshifting into 2nd.What could this be?

Sounds like a synchro is going out in that gear. When was the last time you changed the fluid? Go with a GOOD synthetic, such as redline. Also, GM sycromesh cured that same scratch in my first gen, and you can get it at any GM dealer. Good stuff.

Synthetic gear oil is ~$8 a guart.
It's almost magic in your tranny.

I short shift 1st at around 6K. That way the old syncros can keep up & I'm still in the power band.
(Let 2nd do the work.)

If your second gear syncro's are streached, you should be able to tell by downshifting from 3rd to 2nd at about 4k, possibly a little more.
If it slides nicely into 2nd when shifting down at higher rpm its not your sync's.
If it makes a whining noise and is kinda spongy but does drop in when the rpm's lower, your syncro's are streached and a good synthetic gear oil can "help" your problem!
If it makes a crunching noise there plane ruined and need replaced.
Trying to grab second at too high of rpms, such as when your setting up for a corner, is the main cause of syncro damage. Do you remember doing anything like this ie: downshift into second at really high rpm's?
