What's a GLE?

After reading through this post "What did my FC come with? What is different between models?" and searching the FC forums, I only found one mention of a GLE and it was in this indiglo gauge install post.

I'm looking at an 89 GLE, pretty beat up, but it'd be a fun car if I can get it to run again (owner said it ran one day, next it was dead... guessing electrical problems). But for $200, if it runs, it can't be all that bad, right?

As far as *I* have ever heard, there is or was no GLE rx7, in the US at least.

The 1gens have G, GS, GSL, and GSLSE. The 2gens are base/LX (unmarked)(86-87), sport (unmarked)(86-87), SE (88), GXL(86-90), GTU(88-90), Turbo II(87-91), GTUs(89-90), and coupe (ummarked)(91). The 3gens are base, touring, r1 and r2.

Haha, ok, so it's a bastard child or something, then!

I'll take a closer look (maybe it actually still has an owners manual in the glove box!), and I'll have to see what is up with the electrical system. Looks like someone had cannibalized the alternator off of it, but if the battery still has a charge, I'll hook it up and try to crank it over.

I read through the buyer's guide for the 2g's, some real good info there that I'll definitely be looking for now. I'll be crossing my fingers and hoping that the only electrical issues are those cold solder joints.

Regarding the running fine one day and dead the next, could that really be a motor? I would think it'd degrade a bit slower then that since there isn't really any actual impact stresses on the seals.

No, when a rotary goes, it is gone in a split second, that's it. No warning. In fact, they often run their best right before letting loose.
