Whats this? Fuel sending unit?

Okay so I'm trying to fix my fuel gauge that reads off by a little more than a quarter tank. By process of elimentation, I've started with old wiring. Some one advised I check th fuel sending unit, and that it should be above the tank under the cargo mat. I found a metal plate and unscrewed it. Then I think I found something else. Here's a picture. What next? Haha, don't you love these posts?

If it's reading off by a bunch, it isn't wiring. It's the *pot* on the upper end of the float assy. Buy a new one. Mazdatrix.com http://www.mazdatrix.com/86-92Electrical.htm

I think we'll just need to get to the junkyard and then take the tank down. Bare and do it.
