It has a temp sensitive clutch inside that pulls hard when the rad is hot but slips and sustains ~4-5K RPMs as the engine revs higher.
If it only gets to 3K before slipping it's starting to wear out.
Two years ago I bought one for $186.
You need a 10mm box end wrench to change it.
