What's better CarbonFiber Hood or intercooler?

I am doing my TII conversion and can't deside on what to do about the TMIC. I was thinking of doing a getoe water intercooler with the sock intercooler, but I want to get the car running a soon as possible because My corollas clutch is about to give.

Now im thinking Carbon Fiber hood or frunt mount intercooler or aftermarket waterintercooler.
C/F intercooler cost arount 700 with shipping and FMIC much more. The aftermarket water intercooler should be around 700 or less.

To many option what do you guys think.

Looks or dependability?

c/f intercooler??

i'd go w/ a stock hood and a fmic if money isn't a HUGE issue.... especially if your other option is paying 700 for a hood....

front mount intercooler, sell the t2 hood, and buy a n/a hood for even cheaper.

i'm guessing he doesn't even have a t2 hood yet (doing his t2 conversion), otherwise i assume it'd be an option

Carbon fibre hoods are for posers. FMIC's are for people who want to go faster. You decide.

the N/A cf hood is a 34 lb weight reduction from the steel one... how is that for posers? if you are trying to do a bunch of weight reduction (ie me) the cf hood is something you are thinking (or have already decided on) doing in the future to continue dropping the weight as much as you can. You can always paint the cf hood so it looks stock too as to not be a "poser" as you put it

But only 5lbs for TII from Aluminium TII hood.... that is for posers as the intercooler alone will maximize the power to weight ratio in the end anyway! I say get TII hood and a good FMIC!

oh i totally agree he should get the FMIC, i never doubted that at all... i was just saying that a CF hood doesnt automatically make you a poser, it is beneficial to some, like me, with steel hoods and are not turbo .............................yet

I my experience, most people get carbon fibre hoods for the look, which is why they don't paint them. The relatively tiny weight reduction is just a bonus.

I actually once asked a guy with a carbon fibre hood why he didn't paint it. He looked at me like I was nuts...

They N/A aluminum hood is nearly as light as a CF hood...and you can get one at about 1/5 the price. Just something to think about...

I got a used Trust FMIC kit on ebay for like $400. pretty cool little kit. I only have to cut one hole for piping, and I don't even have to move the battery. plus, I got a nice Trust racing BOV with it too.

although it was a little tricky to figure out where everything went

Plus, a fiberglass hood is about half the price of a carbon fiber hood. Besides, many of the "carbon fiber" hoods on the market are actually fiberglass hoods with a thin sheet of carbon fiber laid on top for looks.

Good question. Everybody is either making CF hoods or CF topped hoods because they can inflate the price and sell them to all the teenagers, or they are making actual race hoods that are usually carbon/graphite. There must be a couple of places still offering a good fiberglass hood, but I am not aware of it because I am not really into this kind of thing. Hopefully somebody who knows will reply to this thread.

I'm going with a CF TII hood for my conversion.

This conversion will be my daily driver and I am going to leave it as is for a while before doing upgrades like a FMIC or bigger turbo/injectors.

Already it will be able to kick some ***. I don't think it's for posers. I love the look of the TII scoop hood.

Besides my car is Black so the CF will blend in. I am probably going to spray some clear over the CF to add a protection barrier from the highway driving.

I think the cars with the unpainted baby blue Z3 fenders on a red car and unpainted CF hoods are posers. Cars that don't match are pretty ugly.

The Carbon Creations FD with the whole CF front end is a good example.

For now I will be hacking a huge hole in my NA hood and fiberglassing a make shift scoop. I might add some side extractors over the turbo too just for practice.

the money you spend on paint matching that hood to "not be a poser" can be spent elsewhere on the car.
