So Cincy,... How much work have you done on Boingers?

Mjmnam..
Somethings way easier: No cam timing, no fussing with valvetrains, no timing chain to break, no worrying about bent pushrods or collapsed lifters. Only 4 bolts on the exhaust header, Intake manifold is dry (no worries about fluid leaks there, and plugs are well away from the exhaust (unlike a lot of OHV V8s)

Worse: Single flywheel bolt requiring 300+ ft/lbs of torque, doesn't tolerate overheating well (can surface a boinger's head/block seating surface if slightly warped), don't ever get detonation on a rotary (rebuild time), coolant o-ring requires entire engine rebuild (head gasket(s) on a boinger)

I just got finished replacing 2 head gaskets for my brother in law's mustang plus a lot of other misc. stuff on other cars.

As for the rotary, I just got finished doing a successful engine swap. I like the rotary a lot!

Just different.
It is working on what you know that makes it easy.

Thumbs up

I'm sorry but a stock high 16.xx to me is just SLOW. Even modded these cars are slow w/ a turbo pushing 12#'s of boost, but the 50/50 weight ratio is really cool, any car that can hold that, weight ~2800's is OK and would be pretty awesome riding in a road race course staying in the plus 4k rpm range .

My mustang weighs 3200 lbs w/ me in it and dumps out 260hp to the wheels and gets it to the end of the track w/ a 12.8x timeslips. Sure, it may not put out 100hp per liter but who cares, run what you brung. The only advantage I see of the rotary is theweight, but if you want to start making more power you have to add a whole slew of crap thats just going to add weight and still wont get very impressive power. There is so many 400+ rwhp all engine mustangs out there it nots even funny, but the loyailty thing I can understand. I am partial to fords and sb 302 and its varients just because thats what I like. You guys seem like a bunch of cool peep's, I cant wait to post pictures of my $250 rx7

Once again this post wasnt meant to flame whatsoever, just trying to open my eyes a little to see if there is something I am missing

Hi AbecX
I've had a couple of Mustangs (know anybody who wants to buy a 20,000 mile 96 GT 5-speed?) and have played with V8 musclecars most of my adult life.
HOWEVER: The day I first heard a bridgeported 12A and peripheral port 13B at the dragstrip, I've was hooked for life. The Mazdatrix nitrous/20B car is the loudest non-blown car I've ever heard- running with open header, it makes an NHRA ProStocker sound tame. Rotaries put the spectacle back in import racing- shooting flames, making more noise than 3 Hondas put together... they're just completely unique.
