This car isn't mine, but from what i've seen, basically the car is hard to start up, but eventually does, then seems to idle fine, until it's fully warmed up. Once it's fully warmed up it suddenly falls on its face and starts to shake and die. The motor is pretty screwed up it seems anyways, lots of white smoke, a little blue smoke here and there. I'm just wondering what would cause it to die after it warms up when it seems to be running fine up until then.

Edit - one other thing, the coolant looks like it has a LOT of oil in it somehow.

 

The problem is...the motor needs rebuilt, no two ways around that. Tell the owner they are in need of a rebuild ASAP and point them to your freindly engine builder of choice

 

Sounds like a lost of compression. Going to need a rebuilt, or a swap

 

actually it probably dies for a lot of reasons but one thing that might help is to find a vacuum leak. I found my crack in the turbo side of the TID.

 

Yeah I know it's going to need a rebuild, I was just curious as to why it would start ******* up when it got fully warmed up?

 

After its fully warmed up, the BAC valve and the fast idle cam on the TB adjust. The BAC closes all the way, and the TB plates then close all the way as well. Im guessing that the engine is either not getting enough air (check filter)(check idle adjustment screw) or is flooding and dying due to leaky injectors or whatnot.

Just a guess.

 

TPS is out of adjustment

 

Ditto^^^ Warm up the car, then turn it off and adjust the TPS. Also, once you set the TPS, open and close the throttle plates and make sure it stays 'set'. Mine wouldnt 'close' all the way sometimes and kill the engine, so I cleaned/regreased the appropriate moving parts and all is well
