what is this? trans question
i checked out the turret of my turboII trans and saw this little metal clip that is in the way of the ball going in the cup. i got it to move over to the side and got the ball in there, but it wouldnt go into anything but 1st and 2nd. so i think the ball is supposed to go in the middle of the clip.
does anyone know?

No, it goes to the side.. If it doesn't go on any other gear but 1st and 2nd.. something went wrong. What where you doing before it would only go into those gears?
The spring is there to return the shifter back to the middle.

i just bought the trans, its sitting out in the garage. i got the clip moved over to the side and i believe the transmission is stuck in 3rd or 4th gear.
we put my shifter in the trans, left it in neutral, and turned the input shaft, the output shaft turned at the same speed... then we put it in gear (1st or 2nd) and turned the input shaft, output shaft no turn........ am i fubar'd?

You're correct - It's stuck in 4th (or maybe 3rd).
When the selector rod interlock pins get worn they can allow two rods to select at the same time.
Then usually only one pulls back to neutral.
Assumming it's stuck in 4th, select 2nd, push the lever right & try to pull out 2nd & 4th out together.
That spring is to hold off the slack in the bushing so the lever dosen't buzz.
