As rare as s5 t2's are, I would say it should pull $5k in any kind of decent running condition. A mint one would be worth 8k or more, even though book on em is less than $7 IIRC...

A scrape? Is it a rebuild, jspec or original engine? Hows the compression? Look-wise its clean inside and out? Depending on the engine and how it looks that price is ok. I wouldn't pay that much but it depends how much its worth to you.

Any obvious problems, especially mechanical, must be deducted from that asking price: in the case of the transmission, I would plan on a rebuild, account $1000 off the price, if not more. If he scoffs at you for this, offer to give him full asking price for the car one *he* gets the tranny properly rebuilt, if he doubts the costs involved.

i would agree that $5k or so for a decent S5 TII with decent compression is very fair.

Interior parts are easy to come by on this forum, heck, i got my entire black interior from this forum

just get compression test and go from there.

Try finding one cheaper, I've tried for three years. Its impossible.

Like I said before, they'll go for 6k+ and I guarantee someone will buy it.

89' gtus black on black 215kmiles $200.00
89' turbo II blaze red 42K orig miles $4000
89' turbo II black on black 155k miles $2000 (blown motor)
87' turbo II red 34k org miles $3500 (I can't belive it either)
89' turbo II blaze red 73K miles $1000 ( blown motor)

I will stop making you guys jelous now. but 5-6 thousand is way to much money for a s5 with 133k miles on it.

ok, that one is fine.

~$300 to fly there to inspect it.
~$1000 to tow it.
~$200 per day off work during inspection

oh look, its going to be 6k again.

Will I do that again? No. I flew to MN, brought a friend.

$928 flight
$200 hotel
$vacation days for two people

Finding a misrepresented car, nicely rusted.. priceless.

Spending 3 days at the Mall of America? BORING.

I don't mean to be a *** or anything, I know us Coloradoans have it easy when it comes to finding rx7s and parts. but what I have found out is that a car with that many miles you end up putting 15k more in to it replacing all your bushings, tranny clutch, motor, and a hole bunch of little **** that adds up big time in the end.and to start off paying 5k to begin with. but to each is their own. just my .02 cents. if it is worth it to you then go for it.

$2,730 Blue Book for 89 TII in Good condition with 132K mi
http://www.kbb.com
+$250 Tires (Good condition means good tires, but IMO the Yokos are worth an extra $250 or so)
-$450 Transmission (Maybe more - get an estimate BEFORE you buy)
$? Whatever all that other junk is worth to YOU not the current owner or anybody else.

Basically, you are looking at about $3,000 - $3,500 for that car. Also note that the engine is probably on its last legs with 132K mi, so you would soon be paying about $2K for a rebuild. However, just about any car in your price range will probably need a rebuild soon.

The reason that the newer TII's sell for more is that they tend to be in better shape than the older cars. There were a few extra standard items on the S5 TII, such as air bags, which increase the price a bit, but not to a large extent. Mileage and condition, those are the big price factors.

Isn't it amazing how many people on this forum think that these cars are rare and have some type of special resale value?

Oh boy..Here we go again...

You know what? Some of us arent so damn fortunate to live in places where TIIs are plentiful. YOU try to find a TII in Tucson. I am DAMN LUCKY to even have my 10th AE.

Conversely, MY CAR IS WORTH MORE DOWN HERE!! Thats called the law of supply and demand. An educated soul such as yourself should be able to grasp that concept.

Look,

I agree that $5500, is WAY high. But around here, its a sellers market. Period.

This is why I was forced to have a USED motor and tranny shipped from Texas, to the tune of $1500.00. Tucson is NOT the ideal place for FC fanatics.
