What are the symptoms of a blown motor?
Im soooo sorry for being a newb i did a quick search for blown motor...and i just didn't have the patience to sift.
The Story:
Last night I was driving back to my dorm and all of a sudden the car just started shaking and got real loud from the front end of the car (i was in first gear, ~15 mph). Then I shifted to second gear and the same thing was happening. (The car felt like it had lost a lot of power). I then downshifted to first and as i hit about 3.5-4K rpm the car came back to normal. I thought it was just a glitch so i shifted back to second and the same symptoms were showing. Same in third, etc. I drove like that for 1-2 minutes to get back home. I let her cool down and started it back up, same problem.
So the question is, is this a blown motor? What do you guys think?
I will do the removal of spark plugs and listen for the apex seals test....but here at school i have no tools whatsoever.
So, lets just say the motor is blown, what do you guys suggest will be the cheapest way to get the car running, with minimal down time...
I was thinking either get a shortblock off these forums (but no luck at finding any), i could try to rebuild it, or how about a jspec?
Sorry for any obviously noob questions, im just really pissed right now. first i lose my girl, now the car....bad thing is i don't know which is worse...

Oh, on a sidenote my motor, tranny, and diff mounts are all probbly shot. Also I hadn't been driving the car hard and it was fully at normal operating temps. All the fluids check out, and the spark plug wires are all in tact as far as i can see.
Also lately i had been getting much more vibrations from the motor than usual...

An apex seal will crap out at idle just as easy as at 7000rpm.
Pull the lower plugs out.
Have someone spin the engine.
Put a finger over the rear plug hole while the engine spins, then your finger over the front plug hole. There will be a dramatic difference if one rotor is good and the other bad.
You can't miss it. No gauge required, only the finger and fifteen minutes.

1) check compression. www.rotaryresurrection.com ---> tech ---> compression check
2) Report back, we'll check other things if compression checks out.
