Well if you don't mind spending some big bucks you can lose a lot of weight. First would be the hood, the cheap way would be to find an aluminum hood. If you can't find one, then go with a cf hood. Keep in mind that you don't have to keep the hood with the cf showing. You can always paint it to color match your car. Second would be to replace your side windows and rear hatch with lexan. Lexan is somewhat on the pricey side, but if you are really serious about removing some weight off the car, then lexan will help. If you want to take this to a higher level you can rip out everything that's not needed to run the car, ie. stereo, speakers, underdash crap, all carpet, door trim, etc. Also buying light weight rims will help. Gram Lights serve two purposes, looking good and being damn light.
There are many things you can do. It's all about how far you are willing to go.

wow.
Why the hell would you ever remove the spare and jack from a street car?
Come on, your time from that stoplight to the next one when your honor is on the line against that guy and his girlfriend in a honda aren't worth the $50 it costs to get your car towed. That .025 seconds you'd save without them aren't worth it either. Cut some holes, remove some tar, but please, keep the tire.

Are you aware that the RX-8 doesnt even come with a spare tire, it's an option?
I say ditch the spare, replace it with a can of fix-a-flat, a cell phone, and AAA membership.

Good lawd thas a lot o money!
IMO, it's silly to to drive your car for any extended period of time without a spare. What are you supposed to do if the lame fix-a-flat stuff doesn't work? Drive on your rims?
As for Mazda's wisdom, are you aware that the spare tire kit blocks the trunk light in the RX-8? Quite a silly and avoidable design mistake. Who's to say not including a spare wasn't another one.
That ok if I get **** for having 3 spares piled up at home...but I can always put them back in if and when I see the errors of my ways.
I just like the cost of the mod..
just trying to save some gas...1% over ten years from 100k=1k miles saved=$800-1000 saved in middle east oil.
Just trying to save the world with my little RX7...and look good too.
Don't take me serious...as all I want is some good g-forces.

180lbs? sweet. Suddenly im glad i turned down all those 'super sizes'. Yeah the stock doors are ridiculous, it was teh first thing i noticed when i got into my first fc. Take the panels off and remove all that insulation and, if you wanna compromise a little safety, cut out the crossmember things inside the door. If you want to keep the stock look (I did) put the panels back on. You'll save at least 10-15 lbs on each side.
My daily driver is a '98 Honda Prelude. I had a tree blow down on my ***, while I was driving, big damage. I worked a deal with a trusted local autobody shop to do it right even though the insurance tried to **** me. The point I'm getting to is I had to strip the car and deliver it. I drove it up there stripped. No front or rear facia, no back seat, no interior side panels, no door panels, no headlight boxes, no taillight boxes, no sunroof. I do not know how much weight I removed, but the car felt awsome! It felt like a tottally different car! Looked like ****, but light was a rush!

Anyways, long story short on weight reduction is that lots can be done. Search there are a few threads out there of inventories of weight reduction, such as 88IntegraLS and I.
Another commonly forgotten weight reduction technique is within you. Stop eating fast food, go for a run a few times a week. The lighter you are, the lighter your car is when you're driving it.

kinda offtopic... but just so you know...
those cans of fix-a-flat? once you use them on a tire, that tire can't be repaired... the vulcanizing fluid on a patch will not chemically react with the fix-a-flat chemical...So your $10 can saved you the cost of a tow...but you now need a new tire.
When I get a tire repair...When I break the bead and even smell the stuff... I just go up front and start askin' which new tire they want...don't even attempt to repair.

What can I say, I was in a rare mood then.
Funny though....
I still don't carry a spare or fix a flat and never had a flat.
In a few years when I get one, I'll come back crying.
If I was really smart I'd put back my spare and chuck the system.
