The compressor housing doesn't look like a GT42. All the 42s I've seen are v-band outlets...Again though, post the wheel dimensions.

As for high/low impedance, run whatever you want. The E8 will handle either.

Kinda off subject here but I thought I read somewhere that the S5 turbo injectors are purple but mine are red. Is there any way to find out what size they are by looking at them?

Ok just checking, so there are no numbers on them to identify the flow rate?

if they are stockers there should be some sort of numbers on there that you could look up

I lost all the complete specs on the turbo. But the exhaust housing looks way different than anything ive seen to my knowledge on turbos (not that much). I believe it was slapped together with random parts. No one makes a 6 bolt outlet flange that big, I have to get one custom made

crap, i got to go to work

so 1000 pri. and 1600 sec. should be fine?
Not to interject and be somewhat of an a$$ but I would highly recommend listening to people here like AaronCake, and perhaps paying attention when he says "unless it's bridgeported its not going to spool" I would also recommend that you find the specs on your turbo. Since your knowledge on turbos is self proclaimed as "not that much" you should really stop for a second before you waste anymore money. Anything is possible you just need to relax a little and listen to people whos knowledge is not "not that much"

Hes right. Good luck running that turbo. If you get it to spool, it wont be till around 5k and when it does, your probably going to blow your motor. I'd recommend unbolting that turbo and taking some measurements. If you don't do the homework on your build, your going to end up doing something very wrong.

Yea im going to use just for mock-up and until I get it bridgeport it. I would port it out now but it has been rebuilt and I have no way of telling if it's ported or not, I looked in the exhaust ports and they looked stock so i'm going with a different turbo. There's no sense in me trying to fab up a custom flange. I'll try to get my hands on a ball bearing GT30 or GT35. What size turbo would be good suited for 400-550 HP?

I'm going to try my luck with a t61

I have read a lot about the gt35r turbo and supposedly it is a really good street turbo, with lower boost lag than many, and it should be capable of getting you to your horsepower goals.

Though you may need to be streetported at least.

There is a HUGE difference between making 400HP and 550HP. About $5000 difference.

You don't seem to know much about turbo sizing.

A GT30 won't make 400HP on a 13B. It will make a really fun 300HP with torque to match and instant spool.

If you want to make 400-450HP, then a GT35R.

If you want to make 500HP and stick with the GT series, then a GT40R. The 40R will lag on stock ports.

So the gt40r will be ok on stock ports, and after I get it brideported it will still be a good turbo to stick with?

The GT40R with a sufficiently big hot side to support a bridge (1.06 and larger) will lag on stock ports. I wouldn't expect you to see full boost until 4500 RPM or so. Even with magic bearings and modern design, it's still a big turbo.

Oh, and don't base injector size on colour. The colour is irrelevant. Only use the part number.

the hotside of that first turbo was big as hell! but as aaron said, cant trust color, it changes with age and heat. go by part number to determine flow rate and clip shape for impedence:

1) square top center notch= s3 (gsl-se only) and s4(86-87.5) low imp.
2) square top offset notch= s4 (87.5-88) high imp.
3) round top= s5 (all years) high imp.

if you search you will find a VIN cutoff for the transition of s4's from low to high imp

rotary top feed injector numbers -

year....motor/ car ...apspiration...ohms...plug-type...notch...size.. colour...number
83- 87 12A T low square centre 660 cc dark blue 195500-0610
83-87 13B HB Cosmo NT low square centre 690 cc green / blue 195500-0830.
84-85 13B GSL-SE NT low square center 700 cc orange 195500-0900
86-87 13B NT low square center 460cc red 195500-1350
86-87 13B T low square center 550cc tan 195500-1370
88 13B NT high square offset 460cc purple 195500-1350
88 13B T high square offset 550cc purple 195500-1370
89-91 13B NT high oval center 460cc red 195500-2010
89-91 13B T high oval center 550cc purple 195500-2020

( i have noted -0610 and - 0830 on both variations of 12aT engines
and also both on 13b 6 port two injector engines from HB cosmo
and have not yet seen the orange one famed for US FB rx7 with 13b )

for your application, 4 x 1000 cc injectors bring four, new balanced injectors
( if you buy blueprinted sets )
this will flow most rx7's up to 400 rwhp , provided revs above 8000 are not used
( 9000 rpm drastically drops the available injection time to 66% of rated static flow !!!!!!!!!! )
- the rediculous flow volumes needed for some cars is attributed to the lack of duty time above 9000 rpm !

with the E8, by experience, 4 x 1000 marren injectors ( rail fit )
works very very well, with NO idle glitches or staging glitches or bad idle of any type
seems good ECU's have no problem idling with big injectors
- in fact the example ima thinking of actually had an increase in drivabilty and low down economy when tune well
( over the standard 550 injectors )

if you not bridged, not revving past 8000 at load
( and not making peak torque at 8000 rpm )
4 x 1000 cc is fine

marren fuel injector
750 cc-05750PI
870 cc- 005850PI
1000 cc- 051000PI
1680 cc- 051600PI

$95 USD

drop in fit ( 11mm top ) , early type ( s4 ) plug

marren a blueprint pairs, all matched up ready to fit !

A TO4B is generally good for 350HP or so on a 13B. But there are many variations on this turbo. The eBay auction doesn't include any information on sizing.

It's far more reasonable turbo for what you want to do.

Hey kinda off topic but i'm wiring up the injectors tomorow (if my primaries arrive) and using the hitmans guide. Just to be clear is rotor 1 the front rotor and rotor 2 the rear rotor? I just want to make sure. thanks
