What size is the coolant hose on the rear/top of the block?

whats the most effective way to block the fitting off?

 

I would guess 3/8".

you can either take out the nub thing and tap the whole and put a bolt in it or just block it off with JB weld. I used a special kind of JB weld for wet placed, it apparently works underwater...
