Probably the last post this year for me. Think of the
Pontiac Trans Am with the hood scoop. Cold air is fed directly into the intake. As vehicle is at high rate of speed air is supposedly forced (rammed) into the intake, thereby the name ram air. No obstructions.
Happy New Year!

"Ram Air" is a trade name for a cold-air induction system marketed by Pontiac which supposedly provides a straight air induction path into the manifold.

Fact is, it's good for about 1 psig at 140 MPH, and the pressure drop across the air filter is greater than 1 psi. "Ram Air" is damn near useless.

ram air probbably makes a bit of difference on a trans am, because of the intake manifold design... it basically goes through the filter, then straight (more or less) through the TB etc into the combustion chambers. ram-air is useless on turbo cars, and on an n/a 13b, still pretty useless, when you consider the wickity wackness of the intake manifold.
