Angry What are the possible symtoms of a blown motor??

my t2 is running like an na!!! idles perfectly fine, just doesnt really boost. even under WOT. usually i boost 0.9 bar but now i can only get to 0.4 bar even up to redline. friend of mine said i could possible have a vac leak but we couldnt find any loose lines anywhere. no warning lights came on. car drives fine... just without boost. could i have blown an apex seal??

usually blown motor and "idles fine" dont get put in the same sentecne.

Ruff idle.....will sound like a lawn mower...compression test will tell you FOR SURE.

Sounds like a turbo problem more than engine. Maybe a blocked cat or muffler. Curious...how much boost are you running?

lately been running about 12psi (0.9 bar). motor ran fine besides the usual 3800 hesitation which i should get around to fixing. when i left work i took the car sideways and it hasnt boosted like usual since. now it only goes up to about 4-5psi (0.4 bar). other than the lack of boost the motor runs fine, like driving an NA. cant seem to find any loose lines for a vac leak either. its like the car just decided to stop boosting.

A blown motor generally will not idle on its own or very rough.
Mine did an awful lot of back firing as well.
Sounds like a blocked cat or maybe time for a turbo rebuild to me.
You might pop the TID off and see if the compressor wheel spins freely. Does it make any noise when you spin it?
Good luck!

What my blown motor does:
On start: Idles fine - 1500+RPM. Once it warms up, will not idle.
Driving: if you dump the clutch at 7k with your foot on the floor you'll stall the car. There's just NO power. Tops out in 4th gear at maybe 120km/h, and it would take 2 minutes to get there... I get very minimal boost (1-2PSI). AWFUL fuel economy... I drove the car 30km and used up 1/4 of a tank! Smells gassy all the time from the exhaust - like it's running really really rich.
It sounds like you're having turbo problems instead of engine troubles, but just to be sure, do a compression test.

My car has all 3 seals gone on the rear, 2 are damaged on the front. It ran like **** below 4k (pulled like a civic above it lol). Anyways, it would idle (bouncing) around 250-300rpm. Sounded like a lawn mower. Mine would still make 5 or 6psi when under full load in 1st/2nd gear (never bothered to drive it in 3rd on the blown motor). You might see smoke coming from the tail pipes.

I'm going to go with the clogged cat theory, i had the same situation on my fiero, come to find out there were chunks of the catylists blocking the flow of air and every so often they'd move just right and flow semi normal. I'd check the cats first!
