I have scheduled a test drive for Tuesday with a seller that is selling an 88 RX7. I have mechanical experience but it revolves around my 86 Toyota Corolla GTS (rwd) and was wondering what I should be looking for about the car. What abnormalities are ok and what warrants not purchasing the car?

 

Take a compression guage and check compression.

Outside of that, it's not much different than your GTS. Actually, look in all the same structural hot-spots.
