What kind of gas to you use?

Hey Guys,

Im new here and dont really know too much. Ive got a '91 conv. (dont know the s4, s5, but if someone would post them, i can learn :-) ). I just want to know what kind of gas is good for the car? 87, 89, etc. Also, any particular brand you find to be better on the engine?

Thanks!

87 octane is all you need. octane is just the gas rating against detonation. if you are detonating an na rotary then you have problems, bad. if you want to keep your fuel system clean and want quality then buy chevron or some other equivalent quality gas. typically with a higher octane, slower burning fuel, you will lose power as the mixture can still be burning long after the combustion stage. however it will help clean out your exhaust, lol.

if you've got an N/A rotary, like ALL the race car drivers use the lowest octane they can find. Faster combustion and/or flame propagation I guess, I forget the reason.

If you've got a Turbo rotary, use the highest you can find to avoid detonation.

N/A mean natrually aspirated, in lamens terms no forced induction. Yes 87 is fine for your convertible

For your NA motor use the lowest octane possible (probably 87..). If you start spraying on it, or go with a supercharger/turbo then you will want to go with a higher octane rating.

I normally put in 93 octane cause some guy around me charges like a 1.50$ a gallon for premium, so I figured fug it. But I guess ill use 87 octane from now on if it doesn't really matter. And with the turbo, Id use 93 octane.

I run 89 now that I'm running 8lbs of boost. When I turn it up anymore I'll be running 93 all the time and 100 for the track.
