Someone told me once that the 10th AE has some sort of upgraded alarm system and those are sensors? (shock sensors?)

I've never seen an AE in person so I dont know for sure. Otherwise... tweeters??

Those may be the glass breakage sensors. The 10th AE has an ultra-sonic alarm system that came stock.

No actually they are Ultrasonic sensors, they are the old pre-runner to the current feild disturbance (radar) sensors, that detect movement of mass through the interior of the car.

One sends out a signal and the other receives it. The CPU for it processes the signals and when it takes longer or shorter for the signal to return, it triggers the security system.

The draw back is that air movement (actually a change in air density) sometimes will trigger the sensors, like if you left the windows down and strong breeze blew through.

Just about...

early eighties technology. True feild (radar) sensors really just started appearing mid 87.

OF COURSE! I have those same sensors in my AE, and whenever I would leave my sunroof fully open, or even just propped up (last summer), the alarm would go off later on. Happened constantly when I was at work. So I just stopped leaving any windows cracked and also stopped leaving the roof open. It all makes sense now!

HOly ****, that seems pretty hightech for a stock security system of the 80s. Neat.

My AE is the same way ... I would leave my windows down in the garage and it would go off randomlly till I figured it out. I reached in my open window with the alram set to grab my pack of smokes... scared the **** out of my it went off right away. It works great super sensative, but I have never had it go off with all the windows up and sun roof closed.

So, it turns out its a alarm so people don't grab your smokes from the middle console while you are not around.
