What is a good temp?

ive got an 87 rx7 n/a and it seems to be running a little warmer than usual. Im going to check coolant when the car cools down but what is the best temp? (i have the stock gauge so try to tell me like 1/2 way or something)

Search, this has been covered before. Just so you know though, I'm pretty sure the NA and TII models have different scales for their temp gauges, aka 1/2 on a TII temp gauge != 1/2 on an NA temp gauge. The same may apply for different years as well.

For 86-88 NA: 1/4 of the way is best, but up to 3/4 is acceptable. 3/4 isn't good, but you can go for months and months like that. #1 most likely cause of high temps is the thermostat. Even if recently replaced. Get an OEM one (i.e., from Mazda). Other than that check the fan clutch if it's hot only at slow speeds and stops, check the air sealing around the radiator (especially if warm at higher speeds), and remove any air bubbles from the coolant (especially if the temp is erratic). Search forums to see how.

Don't ask questions like these without an aftermarket temp gauge that gives better accuracy.

The difference between 1/4 and 1/2 is the difference between 84 degrees and about 90 degrees. So the stock temp gauge has a very narrow range. Half is really nothing to worry about but it probably does mean there is an issue somewhere.
