what is a glass pack?
I was told by the previous owner that he installed a glass pack. there are some problems with the exhaust (see link), and i'm going to (eventually) replace the cat back system. I have read that glass packs are bad (melt), and I thought it might have caused the problems (maybe?). I might replace it if I knew what it was.
Would a glass pack go where a presilencer would (between down pipe and y-pipe)?
If I do have a glass pack, the inside of it would have melted long before I got the car. Should it be a high priority to replace it, or will it be ok to just leave it till I can afford?
I know the melt, but does a melted glass pack cause any problems?
some pics of my exhaust are here:

wont hurt anything if its melted. best thing to do is cut the muffler/presilencer open and replace the fiberglass with high quality stainless steel wool, then weld the muffler shut.

a glasspack is a type of exaust sound improvement. it makes your car louder. there are several types of glasspack mufflers that you can buy. if you buy a highqualty one it will work just fine and will not melt. i personally have one on each end of my pipes and they have never melted even after raceing. they do make glasspacks that connect directly to your header but i do not reccomend them.
the glasspack unless the installer was stupid, would not go where the presilencer is, but if it was put there it would have melted. melting could cause a problem depending on the way it melts.
a glasspack looks like this

well, i think i may just replace the y-pipe and mufflers. I may replace the glass pack (if it is indeed a glass pack) later. The exhaust has a lot of custom parts, but I don't know what. I'm hoping a new cat back system will just bolt onto the alleged glass pack.
