what gauge wire FD alt?

what gauge wire FD alt?

ok, i used this really thin gauge wire. i belive was like 12 and the damn thing fried and messed up my FD alt. I have a S4 which I went thru the diagram posted by silverotor and other members, but my **** fried. my FD alt also has the regulator tricked so it is pushing 170amps. can anyone help out on this wire thing. thanks

you want 4 gauge min on both power wires but better to go with 1/0 gauge so you have less dimming

OTT 12v+ is far too big as well 1 is not even a gauge number. If you are referring to the wire on the alt post to the batt then, OEM setup is 8GA wire that is crimped into the 4GA wire coming from the battery to the starter and the fuse box.

A 4GA min should be used if you enhance grounding points.

If you are referring to the exciter wires on the ALT then 18GA will be fine.
