what the F is this ?

I took my engine apart today, after the front rotor housing was out I saw "that"

I was like "what the F is that?"

I feel it with my finger it looks like it got blocked somewhere in there ? I didn't clean it right away to see what is it because I was pretty pissed I killed one of my rotor today.

Did that happened to anybody before? I guess its pretty safe to say the iron is trashed, right?

Is the brown stuff solid? You could just have mineral deposits in the water jacket, which could eventually build up enough to block part of it. Try to clean it out.

does it look like it has small copper speckles in it? if so could be a radiator sealant... i tell people it does more damage then good... (no one ever listens)

How long have you been in possession of this engine? Only thing what comes to mind is a P/O used headgasket fix to stop a coolant seal leak.

Yea, looks like that to me too. I'd have customers come in looking for that, and when i called it snake oil they would look at me like I'm stupid...

That's all it is, is snake oil.

I call it "mud." Have seen it to some degree in every rotary engine I have taken apart...there's an area in the front rotor housing that has very little coolant flow so the deposits tend to settle there.

It isn't a result of a stop leak product, it just happens.

it looks like a light skim of mud (sediment) over the intake port. so no you will no be able to "push your finger through"

it collects here because when mated to the rotor housing the isn't anywhere for the coolant to through. just like a catch basin of sorts. just sinks

I would say it feels like some really mushy mud.

I got the car 2 yrs ago, drove for less than 200 miles. the Previous owner told me the owner before him told him that the engine was rebuilded about 30K miles ago.

upon disassemble, I call that bullshit, corner seal still using old style spring which when I took it apart, it was completely flat, corner seal rubber plug 1/2 of them are gone and the other 1/2 are melting, Apex seals are way out of spec.

and I found the source of the massive oil leak problem, the oil control rings are actually ok, but the rubber O-ring inside is not. Cuz it was still using the "old old" style black rings which broke even before I took the metal o-ring out.

and ever since I got this car the first thing I did was did a Distilled Water Flush, twice, and finally add 50/50 back into the system. hmm, if I didn't do that I don't know how much worst it would be.

I will try to clean it later today. keep you guys post.

Finally got the time to clean it today

Well, its probably just some build up, happens when people neglect their cooling system. if I didn't do 3 flush (2 distilled 1 50/50) its probably worst.

but hmm, after cleaning it, I want to know which idiot build this engine, the builder put silicone pretty much every freaking where EXCEPT the area that actually need it. Failed.

Also, do you think this housing still "lap-able" ? you can tell some silicone has "go back" into the combustion area. (thx again idiot, stop using silicone like its free) so many black spot here and there.

consider the "Autozone kind" of radiator this car had ... not only that, the radiator is "obviously" really old as the paint on it pretty much all peeled off and u can see rust all over the place ... I have a feeling the car was in the wrong hands, no coolant change whatsoever cuz as far as I remember the first coolant drain I saw "black" coolant ... so its either really old coolant, or mixed with wrong color or Dex-Cool bullshit.

Its in good hands now

itt: buy shitty 25 year old car.. complain that its a shitty 25 year old car that someone neglected to take care of.

also deposits in that area are common. even if you do over 9000 radiator flushes and change coolant more often than oil, **** is still going to collect there.

plus. its n/a so whatevs.. nothing of value was lost.

Last 2 motors I've torn down had similar buildup. As for http://www.nopistons.com/forums/topi...01#entry835701

Just because its 20 (91) years old car does not mean its shitty automatically.

I seen cars that's 30 yrs old still in very good condition. and its not even a "special" car and it has been thru 6 owners just like this FC.

I guess so, did a lot of google found lots of info on that.

If I want power I would've got myself a FD first and call it a day.

Always use distilled water + antifreeze when doing coolant changes, and change frequently. Otherwise sediment from the tap water builds and builds...

If it's like mayonnaise then it's coolant + oil from a leak.

Either way I assume some water should wash it out.

Had that in my 91 NA also. I just let it sit for a few days + the pieces dried out, shrank then fell out. I cleaned most of it out, but I'm not using them again so it doesn't matter much. But yeah, I had several passages like that.

yea It looks and feels like Mayo. well this engine did had an oil leak so I guess that's the reason why.

I only use distilled water to flush. after flush I always use 50/50
