The black piece that is between the headlights with the cutout for the hood release. What does it do?

stock stuff has plastic under the stuff up there, as in below the overflow bottle and the other stuff. the panel there keeps air coming in the front from going over the radiator instead of through it.

www.fc3s.org has directions for making one out of a thin steel sheet. Its under the "How To" section. (see link below) Basically, lay a big piece of cardboard over that area, cut out the necessary openings for your hood latch and stuff, then trace the cardboard on your steel or tin sheet. You will need a jig saw or something similar to cut holes in the steel, but it shouldn't be too hard to do. I've seen them made out of carbon fiber too, if you like the bling-bling.

Haven't we ALL heard this
That looks like westTX's car
I really do not see how that panel would do squat to get more airinto the radiator.
I think if anything the stock plastic would a better job.
And it looks like there is a gap between the CF piece and the top of the radiator. Unless put some foam in there the air will avoid the radiator there also. It would take the path of the least resistance.

On my 91 TII there are two plasic curved pieces. The slide behind the relays and the coolant overflow.
These ducts help keep the air going to the radiator. I will post some pics when I get home...if I ever do
