what does it take to push 10 grand redline
ok i have decided to buy this low milage 7 an rebuild mine as more of a street/drag car. i have heard you car push 10 thousand rpm's out of a rotary i was wonderin what kind of mods have to be done to push this kind of rpms???

my uncle is still recoverin from the loss of his son about a month or so ago i've discussed buildin this motor with him but nothing serious yet. an i dont know about 20,000 rpms seems like alot to ask for
also i'm askin yall cause he is like me he said he's seen them pushin 10 thousandat the drag but i want to know more or less what i need to do it

oil mods, porting,ecu,balanced this and that, better bearings and hardened stationary gears, flywheel. it all depends on how reliable you want it at 10k.
i dont think your uncle has the capability to do this unless he is a millionaire or owns one of the "big" rotary shops.

well don't really know what you need but a couple of years ago my uncle had a datsun 210 with a 12A and he used to launch the car at 10,000rpms, the car was a rebuild engine with a pretty big street port,exhaust,header and if im correct he had a holley 600 carburator but that was basically what he had done to the car. the car spun tires like crazy and threw side by side everytime he drop the clutch at 10k. it was sure a fast car for those times.

not a millionare or owner of a rotary shop just works for mobil an has enough stuff that i know he built a i think it was a 383 stroker for one of is sons camaro's pushin around 400hp well it was til he wrapped it around a tree but he walked away from thatone
my car that i would be doin this to is a 87 model
i also have an 89 engine i figure i can pull the internals out of it an put it in mine to give it the 8,000 redline but i would love to be pushin 10,000 with twin turbos
i'm young an wanna have a little fun i guess

Less than 10 Grand
I race a street port Gen 2 pull 9000 RPM all year, each race week end (Change oil and filter after each weekend). I just inspected my engine two days ago and all I need is a gasket kit and O-Ring kit. Use 1989 to 1991 rotors (light) aluminium flywheel with proper balancer (light),Turbo oil pump, modified crank shaft oil set screws weld up and dill them out (Drill size I do not have at this time) also lock tight in to place. Use stock Mazda Apex seal (Have never had a problem). Run all bearing clearances at .0035 thou (Loose). Polish rotor shaft wear the rotor rides on the outer edges (.350” in from the edges) down .0001” on each side so that the middle has a small crown. On the crank end supports remove bearing and add two more holes for extra oiling. Remove pressure relief valve at the rear of the motor and shim up to get 120 PSI at full rpm. Not much more than that. Only do a flawless job and assemble it with proper lube and spot less so you can lick the parts. Run it hard. Note all my dyno run prove that with out at lease a bridge port you will not flow enough air at that RPM. Your power band will drop off at 7850RPM and continue down from there to 10000RPM With RPM you need porting to support the flow. Like I said you can turn this set up to 10000 RPM but you will be spinning for nothing if you do not improve air intake and exhaust to support it.

ill say go with big street port and bridge port engine, i really don't like that p-port thing, ive seen n/a p-port engine and the only thing that changes is that they rev fast as hell but when they go to the dyno there isn't that huge gain in hp. just my .02 cents.

The bigger issue imo, is making power above the stock redline. Getting to 10k isnt the tough part, making the power is. Otherwise going to 10k wont do anything but slow you down. I didnt wee wether this was a turbo car or not. If its turbo go with a big turbo, big port of some sort, standalone and some other mods... then think about upping the redline

The mystery of the prize.
if your uncle can make anything.... make some lightweight rotors and matching counterwights, a lighter eccentric shaft, and it will be easy to have > 10,000 rpm safely... I don't expect you to actually do this because I suspect you are full of it.
But to give you the benefit of the doubt, I'd recommend a peripheral port for anything spinning 10k and beyond if you're serious and don't care much about the street, whoever said peripheral ports don't make more power is smoking some serious rocks.
If you want your rev limit around 10,000 then it's pretty damn easy... if you want the torque peaking near there then it gets more interesting.
My motor spins to 9500 with ease and its still making power, it's past the torque peak but it hasnt fallen enough to make it pointless to stay in the shorter gear longer. I didnt do anyting particularly special, s5 internals, oiling upgrades, hardened stat gears... street porting, and alot of care taken with the intake tract and a free flowing exhaust... oh and a standalone.

Anything that makes power at 10k will be shitty for street driving. You could probably get good power up to 8.5-9k with a large street port on an s5 motor, which would still yeild decent low-end power, but thats about the limit for a reasonable street car.
Plus 10k is completely useless on a street car except for compensating for a small appendage (if you know what I mean ).
