What does this noise mean?

It seems to be coming from the clutch, it's kinda sounds like there is a piece of metal hanging off the clutch that ticks when it spins. It makes the noise in EVERY gear but ONLY when the clutch is engaged and my foot is off the gas pedal, so it only makes the noise while decelerating or in reverse. I have already removed the tranny to inspect the components but found nothing. I am guessing it has to be either the tranny or clutch, maybe the pressure plate, or the bearings. It just doesn't make any sense to me. The noise is like nothing I've ever heard before, and the car runs just fine. I've been fighting this for over a month now and still can't figure it out.
