what do i have to do??
what do i have to do??
heres the situation guys....im going to be getting a twin 55mm tb intake set up and all....and it doesnt utilize the afm. so im asking if i have to get a stand alone ecu setup to not have to use the stock afm. and if i do have to what would be the best. also will i be able to block off the omp on my s5 with the stand alone set up??
The Microtech uses most of the stock sensors, but I hear tech support is non-existant. Haltech has been around a while. If you remove your ECU, your free to remove your electrical OMP.

You can block off the OMP with or without Standalone. But you will have to run premix at all times if you do this. You can search for premix info if you want more.
Yes you need standalone to not have an AFM. Go with a Microtech or Haltech system I'd say.

The stock ecu may not work too well without the stock AFM. As far as which stand alone is the best, it depends on what you want out of a stand alone; whats your price range, what level of performance are you trying to achieve, that sort of stuff.
ok heres the deal with what i want to get out of it.. im trying to get the absolute most power i can out of my na engine. yes na.. im going to have a set of s5 t2 housings instead of the na ones. im getting an aggressive streetport and polish. no a/c or power steering. im ordering a twin tb setup which gets rid of all of the stock intake manifolds including the 5th and 6th port actuators. as for price range of the stand alone .... ill say around $2000 maybe a lil more. and yes i know i have to premix and that i can do it without stand alone. but i would have to leave the actual omp hanging in the engine bay somewhere. i was meaning to actually be able to unhook it completely with the stand alone and my car not go into limp mode??
I recommend Microtech for an ECU. As for model take your pic, LT8 is the most basic I beleive and its probably more then you need on an NA. I suggest it cause its what I got. You can get the hand held unit to go with it too so you can monitor everything as you drive without having a big F&F laptop in your car.
