I don't believe you can interchange the two. Here is a list of the ECU part numbers and what they go with.

84-85 GSL-SE N304 18 880A
86-87 NA N326 18 880, N3Y6 18 880
87 Turbo N332 18 880
88 NA N327 18 880
88 Turbo N333 18 880
88 Convertible N338 18 880
89 NA California N350 18 880
89 NA Fed. N351 18 880
89 Conv. CA N352 18 880
89 Conv. Fed. N353 18 880
89 Turbo N370 18 880

Here is also some extra info:

A N332 (87-87.5 Turbo) ECU would only be compatible in a N33X car, (87-88 Turbo) and could be interchanged with a N332, N333, or N338 ECU.

Conversely a N37X series ECU would only work in a N37X car (89-91 North american spec Turbo). You could not put a N370 ECU into a N332 car without changing the engine and dash harnesses.

Or a N326 (non turbo 86-87.5) ECU could only be used in a 86-88 non turbo car, but a N327 ECU (87.5-88 non turbo) could also be used.

See the first three digits must match the cars engine harness and existing ECU.

you dont think you can use the n338. you can probably use the n332 but you will probably need resistors for your injectors. the n332 used low imp injectors and the n333 used high. im sure someone else can give a definitive answer for you.

the ecu only controls the ground side so weather it needs resistors or not depends on injectors
