What color should I paint my calipers?
What color do you guys think I should paint my calipers? I got black red and yellow paint. My rims are stock aluminum silver. I got a black 89 GXL. Tell me what you think.
Black.
:) |
i say either black or red.
red stands out nicely with a black car... i say red all the way... such a smooth look..
should I paint my rear subframe the same as the calipers also?
If you're going to paint the subframe black is the only color I would do it with.
Red might look good on a balck car. I painted mine black, but my car is white. Looks good when you sand down the "MAZDA" part then put a coat of clear over that.
Why paint them at all? Just clean them up real nice.
They will get rusty again, I cleaned them up real good then they started to rust again... the back ones at least. Are the front aluminum, if so I might leave them alone.
All four are AL I believe. On mine I just cleaned them up real nice, that was last year. If you do paint them though, paint them black or grey. Painting them a color makes them look aftermarket.
The four piston front calipers are the only ones that are aluminum.

I painted them safety red. If they dont match up then ill just paint them black again.
Just paint the subframe black like it was originally? Then hit the bottom of it with truckbed liner from a spray can? |
I had painted my calipers red, and i repainted the subframe black then hit it good with an under coating, i think it was duplicolor... I was bored and hit the rest of my car underneath as well, its REALLY black. So i decided to paint my exhaust aluminium to lighten it up a bit...
If you want them to stand out dont do black. i painted mine black, btu i thought they would look pretty cool. btu they just look like there really dirty. If you just want to hide them then go with black.
Heres a pic of my car with black calpiers http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...9/f9a38e82.jpg |
yellow like my bremboo :)
I have VHT's Yellow now. The previous owner painted them this colour which I didn't particularily like. So, one-by-one I had to replace them when they failed. In doing this, I had to paint them the same colour to maintain the consisitency. I really wanted to paint them Black and sand down the embossed Mazda but It would look odd with a Black and Yellow theme.
So after replacing them and painting them Yellow to maintain the consistency, I loath them now. I'll probably be glassbeading them and repainting them the same colour as they should have been from day 1. :) Silver RX-7 and Yellow Calipers are ghey. :D |
mmmm VHT..
I choose *other*
Paint them gunmetal, they blend in very nicely and look good imo, thats what i did for mine :) |
Mine are yellow, i have a maroon car, they look like ass.
GO WITH RED, then it'll look like those sexy black evo VI's |
Teal ;)
Black.
Red caliper on black car = Awesome. Do red, you wont regret it. I painted the calipers on my G/Fs black eagle Talon TSI AWD red..looks great. Just dont do it stupidly. CLean the calipers meticulously..then give them a few coats, and let dry. I baked my calipers actually. Nothing looks worse than bad/flakey paint.
I have the calipers on my silver FC painted black though.. :p: |
I painted mine silver, and did the mazda on the fronts in blue. They match my wheels very well. My car is black and i think they look awesome, of course ;)
cant go wrong with red though, it's a universal color works on just about anything. -E |
paint em silver. its kinda bright and doesnt look ricey
midnight blue would look cool with black and wouldn't stick out too much, yet would keep it from just looking dirty
black will hide break dust sooo much better, while yellow and red , will just accentuate it. I wouldn't paint the subframe, any crazy color, stick with a traditional black.
Silver subframe might look nice...
as far as brake color goes.. it depends on the color of the car.. the brakes on my 10AE are getting painted black with the mazda part getting painted gold or red... but maybe I'll do the opposite of that, red calipers with black lettering... I think that would look really nice... |
why use 2 different colors? that would just be too much if you ask me
I like the calipers red and the mazda in black but keep em cleen and i don't think painted calipers are rice in any for besides those four pistons are good calipers and should be shown off
Even though it doesn't look as good as it would with something like a Black or even a white car, I still painted my calipers red. I think they look decent.
too bad i don't have any pics of my brakes, maybe somthing to do tommorow, any way, my car is black and I painted my brakes red, and hand painted the mazda part white, looks really nice. but my buddy has a white 3rd gen and I painted his calipers white with the mazda part red, it looks really fancy, people always give him compliments on them
Well, I gotta admit this thread Inspired me to get a move on my current Yellow Calipers I still have on. I've taken them off and I'll be glassbeading them tomorrow, If not Tuesday. The Yellow Is outta there!

just clean then very well with one of those wire brush attachments for a drill or dremel, then add a clear coat... they will look better than new, and not rust.
DON'T PAINT. POWDERCOAT. SATIN BLACK. NOT FLAT BLACK AND NOT GLOSS BLACK.
ALSO SPRAY WHEEL WHEEL AREA BLACK. LET YOUR WHEELS AND TIRES DO THE TALKING. COLORS ON CALIPERS IS :gay: |
I painted mine red, but I still need to hand paint the Mazda part. I guess it could b argued that it looks ricey, but I thought that it was a great way to accentuate the stock brakes, which are nothing to be ashamed of.

black or silver...actual colors are a little cheesy. red calipers are only cool on cars that came with them :) black with silver mazda lettering looks nice.
red calipers look badass, even if they are just painted. i did my old buick like that.
red or black. Probably red if your car is black.
Yellow=teh ghey. |
Red. I have a Black 88 GTU and it looks hella sexy against my very open silver spoke rims.
Yellow seems too ricey since all the Honduz use it.Although yellow = more HP!. |
a buick with red calipers...flame on :)
just wait until you see the rest of it
picture the scene an old grandma buick, with motegi mr7's, custom intake, accel wires, limo tint, graphics and white led underbody and headlight strobes. FLAMES WELCOME! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! |
pics of my silver calipers, sorry for th crappy pic, i had to cut it down to upload.
I just painted mine gloss black today. I'm gonna sand down the Mazda lettering tomorrow before I reinstall them.
if I had money I'd powder coat them black, looks so pretty, I saw them powder coat a bike on american choppers for jay leno. it got me off right there in like 2 seconds... well not quite like that but it is soooo nice and smooth
I cleaned mine yesterday really good. Made them shine. Then I just clearcoated them. Looks good, and not like I have aftermarket calipers.
what, no one likes my red calipers on my old buick?
my Brembo wannabes.. :)
